The Sr Reinsurance Broker, UCTS, is an advanced individual contributor responsible for structuring, negotiating, and executing complex reinsurance placements that support client risk management strategies and brokerage objectives. This role independently manages reinsurance programs across multiple lines of business, applying advanced knowledge of reinsurance markets, underwriting principles, and regulatory considerations. Operating within the insurance brokerage environment, this role serves as a technical resource and trusted advisor to internal stakeholders and carrier partners, ensuring optimal placement outcomes that balance coverage, pricing, and capacity. The Sr Reinsurance Broker exercises independent judgment on complex and sometimes ambiguous issues, influences placement strategies and market approaches, and contributes to the development of reinsurance practices, standards, and processes. The role also provides mentorship and guidance to less experienced brokers and supports cross-functional collaboration across underwriting, actuarial, and client teams.

The role also provides mentorship and guidance to less experienced brokers and supports cross-functional collaboration across underwriting, actuarial, and client teams.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end placement of reinsurance programs, including facultative and treaty arrangements, for complex and high-value client portfolios.
  • Analyze client risk exposures, historical loss data, and financial objectives to design effective reinsurance structures and strategies.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive submission materials, including underwriting presentations, financial analyses, and risk narratives tailored to reinsurance markets.
  • Negotiate terms, pricing, capacity, and coverage structures with reinsurance carriers to achieve optimal client outcomes.
  • Evaluate and compare quotes and binding terms, providing recommendations to internal stakeholders and clients based on risk, cost, and coverage considerations.
  • Maintain strong relationships with domestic and international reinsurance markets, including carriers, intermediaries, and syndicates.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on reinsurance products, including proportional, non-proportional, excess of loss, quota share, and stop-loss structures.
  • Ensure timely execution of placements, renewals, endorsements, and contract documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements and internal controls.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, actuarial, finance, and client-facing teams to align reinsurance strategies with broader business objectives.
  • Provide guidance on market conditions, pricing trends, and emerging risks impacting reinsurance availability and structure.
  • Support claims-related activities as needed, including interpretation of contract terms and coordination with carriers on recoveries.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to placement processes, data quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior brokers and analysts, including reviewing work products and sharing best practices.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of reinsurance principles, structures, and products, including treaty and facultative placements.
  • Strong understanding of insurance brokerage operations, underwriting processes, and carrier negotiation strategies.
  • Expertise in analyzing complex risk profiles, loss data, and financial implications of reinsurance programs.
  • Ability to independently manage complex placements and projects with limited supervision.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to achieve favorable outcomes with carriers and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex reinsurance concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance considerations within the insurance and reinsurance industries.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex placement challenges.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority deliverables and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide junior colleagues and influence team-level practices and procedures.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in documentation, contracts, and financial analysis.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience managing reinsurance placements, including direct interaction with carriers and negotiation of terms.
  • Professional designations such as CPCU, ARe, or ARM preferred or in progress.
  • Experience within insurance brokerage or financial services environments strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrates professional judgment, technical expertise, and alignment with organizational values.
