Job description

Our mission at Greenhouse is to make hiring work for everyone – so we go to great lengths to hire great people because we believe that they’re the foundation of our success. At Greenhouse, you’ll join a team that collaborates purposefully, fosters inclusivity, and communicates with transparency and accountability so we can achieve our mission.

Join us to do the best work of your career, solving meaningful problems with remarkable teams.

This is an independent contractor engagement in Argentina. Deel will serve as Contractor of Record and will contract with and pay the independent contractor. The independent contractor will provide services to Greenhouse on a non-exclusive basis, may provide services to other clients, and will be responsible for determining the manner and means of performing the services, subject to the applicable statement of work and agreed deliverables. This engagement is not an employment relationship with Greenhouse. No employment relationship, social benefits, or labor entitlements under Argentine Law 20,744 are created by this engagement.

Through this arrangement, Deel is hiring an independent contractor to provide services to the Employer Experience and Talent Discovery Team. This team builds the experiences and signals that help employers find the right talent faster, while creating the foundation for a trusted talent discovery ecosystem.

This role will support the development and maintenance of the Company’s  web-based applications as part of an approximately 12-month engagement. In this role, you’ll contribute to Talent Matching, Talent Rediscovery, and related employer-facing experiences. You’ll work across the stack to build product capabilities and the search and matching systems behind them, with a particular focus on OpenSearch or Elasticsearch and practical applications of AI to matching, ranking, and search relevance.

This is a collaborative, execution-focused, non-exclusive engagement. You will spend the majority of your time in the code building features, fixing bugs, and ensuring our products remain stable and performant for users.

Contract & location details

  • Contract duration: Approximately 12 months
  • Engagement type: A non-exclusive contract role engaged through a Contractor of Record (COR) via Deel in Argentina
  • Location: Argentina (remote)
  • Working model:  Collaboration with a distributed, US & Canada-based team with reasonable availability for coordination with Greenhouse stakeholders

Who will love this job

  • A collaborative partner – you share your knowledge and expertise, work effectively with others, and contribute to successful project outcomes
  • An adaptable contributor – you adjust quickly to changing needs and stay effective in dynamic environments
  • A pragmatic architect – you evaluate trade-offs between performance, relevance, maintainability, and cost, choosing patterns that simplify complexity for the long term
  • A problem solver – you think about the bigger picture, connect the dots, and efficiently resolve technical and product challenges
  • An excellent communicator – you explain technical processes clearly, including to non-engineers, and work well with Product, Design, Data, and Applied ML partners
  • A search and matching builder – you enjoy turning complex retrieval and ranking problems into intuitive, trustworthy product experiences

What you’ll do

  • Collaborate with Product Managers and Designers to define requirements and build product experiences from conception through delivery
  • Build and improve full-stack experiences for Talent Matching, Talent Rediscovery, and related talent discovery workflows
  • Design and ship search-backed capabilities using OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, including indexing, query design, relevance tuning, ranking, and semantic retrieval
  • Develop matching systems that combine keyword, structured, semantic, and AI/ML signals to improve match quality
  • Partner with Applied ML and cross-functional engineering teams to evaluate trade-offs across relevance, latency, reliability, infrastructure cost, and user trust
  • Build evaluation, observability, testing, and feedback mechanisms to continuously improve matching quality
  • Develop clean, efficient, maintainable, and scalable production code for core services
  • Contribute to code reviews and engineering practices
  • Additional projects as needed within the scope of the engagement

You should have

  • 5+ years of experience writing production code
  • Experience with Ruby, C#, Java, or Python; Ruby and Rails preferred
  • Strong JavaScript or TypeScript fundamentals, including React
  • Full-stack experience across backend systems, APIs, data modeling, and modern frontend development
  • Deep experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch in production, including indexing, query design, relevance tuning, and performance trade-offs
  • Experience building search, ranking, recommendation, or matching systems
  • Practical experience applying AI or ML techniques in production, such as embeddings, semantic search, classification, or ranking
  • Experience collaborating with Product and Design in ambiguous, user-facing problem spaces
  • Experience with analytical databases, a plus
  • Your own unique talents! Your background has given you a unique perspective and set of transferable skills that aren't always in alignment with a given role - but those are qualities we value at Greenhouse. If you don't meet 100% of the qualifications outlined above, we still strongly encourage you to apply
