Description of Work

This DEACS Office Manager position, within the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), is located at 943 Washington Square Mall, Washington, NC 27889. The DEACS unit managed by this position ensures essential core functions and support to the programs located at this regional office.

Key Responsibilities:

Providing a positive customer service interaction to internal and external customers, processing critical and time-sensitive correspondence, processing fiscal documents for programs, and compiling reports for program staff and their respective management.

The Administrative Officer is completely responsible for the facilities, operations and services needed to maintain the regional office. Manage the fiscal budgeting, procurement management and processing, fixed asset inventory control, and facility management.

Supervision of an administrative support staff in the areas of onboarding, coaching counseling, performance evaluations and discipline.

Partnering with Human Resources in the recruitment of vacancies and addressing employee relations issues.

Division of Environmental Assistance & Customer Service

The Division of Environmental Assistance and Customer Service (DEACS) provides technical assistance and information to industries, businesses, and government agencies on pollution prevention, waste reduction and recycling, permitting, and general environmental issues.

DEQ Regional Office is to provide regional support and monitoring of environmental regulations and enforcements to ensure the natural resources of NC are protected. There are seven regional offices located throughout the state that provide services to various counties and municipalities in various environmental programs depending on the region in which the individual regional office provides these services. The main purpose of DEACS at the regional office is to provide logistical and administrative support to the professional and technical staff of the various environmental programs at each regional office.

 This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. The NC Department of Environmental Quality trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.
