Job description

Overview:

The Staff Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager and is responsible for preparing journal entries, account reconciliations balance sheet and income statement variance analysis and other activities associated with the monthly general ledger close.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the general ledger month-end close and prepare supporting schedules according to monthly close schedule
  • Assist with the completion of the month end, quarter-end and year-end closing processes ensuring transactions are in accordance with Governmental Accounting Standards, US GAAP, internal policies and PCAOB procedures
  • Assist with payroll system processing; administer the Deltek Costpoint timekeeping system including user setup, maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly general accruals and search for unrecorded liabilities
  • Analyze other asset and liability accounts, and record journal entries as needed
  • Analyze expenses to ensure they are recorded appropriately on a monthly basis
  • Prepare month over month, quarter over quarter and year over year P&L and Balance sheet variance analysis for accounts assigned
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations as assigned and work to resolve any discrepancies
  • Assist with the fulfillment of external and internal audit requests
  • Assist, with the documentation of Process & Procedures and associated controls
  • Cross-train on other roles in the GOV Accounting team
  • Complete all responsibilities as outlined in the annual performance review and/or goal setting.
  • Complete all special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Basic understanding of US GAAP
  • 2+ years minimum accounting experience; CPA a plus, but not required
  • Experience with public company environment a plus
  • Knowledge of Deltek and NetSuite financial system a plus
  • Must be well organized and possess strong attention to detail
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Must be able to provide a dedicated, secure work area.
  • Must be able to provide high-speed internet access / connectivity and office setup and maintenance.

Base compensation ranges from $55,000 to $70,000 per year. Specific offers are determined by various factors, such as experience, education, skills, certifications, and other business needs. This role is eligible for commission. OR This role is eligible for discretionary bonus consideration.
