Position Title

Underwriting Support Specialist

Position Summary

The APR Underwriting Support Specialist provides administrative, operational, and technical support to the FirePlus underwriting teams to facilitate the efficient evaluation, processing, and servicing of insurance policies. This role is responsible for policy administration, data entry, document management, quality assurance, and communication with agents, brokers, customers, and internal stakeholders. The specialist plays a critical role in ensuring underwriting transactions are completed accurately, timely, and in compliance with company guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Underwriting Operations Support

  • Assist in the Preparation and review process for new business submissions, endorsements, renewals, and cancellations.
  • Enter and maintain policy, risk, and customer information within underwriting systems, ensuring underwriting files are complete, accurate, and compliant with company standards.
  • Support underwriters by gathering and validating information required for risk assessment and decision-making.
  • Assist in performing rating support activities as directed.

Documentation & Quality Control

  • Review applications and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Verify data integrity across multiple systems and identify discrepancies.
  • Maintain electronic records and documentation in accordance with company procedures.
  • Conduct quality checks on policy transactions and underwriting files.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, correspondence, and underwriting documentation.

Customer & Agent Support

  • Serve as a point of contact for agents, brokers, and internal business partners regarding policy status and underwriting requirements.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding submissions, policy changes, and documentation requests.
  • Coordinate communication between underwriting, operations, claims, and service teams.
  • Provide professional and timely customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.

Compliance & Process Improvement

  • Ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support departmental audits and compliance reviews.


Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field preferred.

Experience

  • 1-3 years of insurance, underwriting support, policy administration, or related administrative experience preferred.
  • Experience working within property & casualty, specialty, or commercial insurance environments is beneficial.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience using policy administration and underwriting systems preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily sedentary office work requiring extended periods of computer use.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via phone, video conferencing, and email.
  • Flexibility for extensive work hours during the peak business periods of April 1st thru July 15th, and October 1st thru December 15th;
  • Flexibility for 0%-10% business travel.

Success Measures

  • Accuracy and timeliness of submission processing.
  • Achievement of service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Quality assurance scores and error rates.
  • Responsiveness to agents, brokers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Contribution to operational efficiency and process improvement initiatives.

Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Underwriting Department Head or designated leadership team member.
