About the company

Arkipel Inc.

Consumer Goods

We build, acquire, and grow performance sports apps. Relive turns your ride, run or hike into a video worth sharing. JOIN coaches cyclists, REN does the same for runners, and Kunu helps golfers understand their swing and fix it faster. Together: 25 million users. Same playbook, different sports. Central team, shared infrastructure, ten years of lessons that compound. We know the coaching models, retention loops and growth experiments that actually work. It's why we could build REN, a complete running app, in five months. And we're not done. More sports, more apps, built and bought. We're a team of ~35 across 18 nationalities, with no layers of management between an idea and the millions it reaches.

Job description

🏝️ First, Arkipel

Arkipel builds products that get people moving outside. Relive turns your ride, run or hike into a video you actually want to share. JOIN is a training coach for cyclists. REN does the same for runners. Kunu helps golfers understand their swing and fix it faster. Together they reach millions of people around the world who ride, run, hike and play.

We are a team of ~35 people across 18 nationalities. Small teams, big products, no layers of management between an idea and the people it reaches. We build things we are genuinely proud of, and we move fast because we can.

🚲 JOIN

JOIN started with something founder Jim van den Berg kept seeing in his own athletes: even a perfect training plan falls apart the moment real life gets in the way - bad sleep, a rained-out ride, a spontaneous group spin. Jim's take: there are no bad workouts, just a bad combination of workouts.

So in 2020, drawing on Jim's background as a semi-pro racer and World Tour-level coach, he built an app that adjusts the plan around your life, instead of asking you to bend your life around the plan.

As part of Arkipel today - that's still JOIN's philosophy and it's the actual engineering challenge for JOIN's Product Engineers: build a system smart enough to react to a missed workout or a bad night's sleep and still make the right call for tomorrow. If that's more interesting to you than another CRUD app, you'll feel at home here.

🚴‍♂️ Product Engineer at JOIN

In this role, you will join Ilja and Marcos to work across backend, infrastructure and mobile/web when needed. A Product Engineer at JOIN is someone who's just as happy debugging an infrastructure fault as they are jumping into the mobile app when the team needs an extra pair of hands.

We're not looking for a specialist in one language or framework. We're looking for a strong language-agnostic engineer who is interested in picking up whatever the problem needs them to.

💡 What you'll actually do

  • Designing, building and shipping systems that power JOIN.

  • Working with our databases and infrastructure to keep things reliable as we scale.

  • Jumping into mobile or web frontend work when the team needs it.

  • Owning your work end to end from prototyping to production release.

  • Using AI tools (including coding agents) to work faster and better: we give you the freedom to use them how you see fit

🔭 Who thrives in this role

  • Experienced engineer: you're not defined by one language or framework, you figure out what's needed and get on with it.

  • Full stack with a bias toward backend: You are comfortable across backend and databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL), not afraid of infrastructure (AWS, DigitalOcean, Docker, Terraform); You have some exposure to TypeScript/Node.js, Java or Kotlin, and React/React Native, or native iOS/Android.

  • You regularly release to production and know what that responsibility looks like.

  • You work independently, without needing hand-holding

  • Uses AI to complement their skills and go further, not to skip understanding of what's being built.

  • Bonus: you ride your bicycle or you're into endurance/outdoor sports, and can relate to the people who use JOIN app.

👎 Who probably won't

  • You're early career and need a mentor - this role isn't set up for that.

  • You only want to work in one specific language or framework.

  • You lean on AI to generate code without understanding or owning it.
