Job description

Here at Savista, we enable our clients to navigate the biggest challenges in healthcare: quality clinical care with positive patient experiences and optimal financial results. We partner with healthcare organizations to problem solve and deliver revenue cycle improvement services that enable their success, support their patients, and nurture their communities, all while living our values of Commitment, Authenticity, Respect and Excellence (CARE).

As an Inpatient Coder III at Savista, you’ll play an important role in ensuring accurate, compliant coding that supports our clients’ financial and clinical data needs. You’ll use your inpatient coding expertise to review complex clinical documentation, assign accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes, validate MS-DRG assignments, and help identify and resolve coding-related claim edits.

This is an opportunity to leverage your coding knowledge in a collaborative environment while staying current with evolving coding guidelines, regulations, and industry best practices. You may also have opportunities to work directly with client teams and providers on coding-related questions and documentation clarification.

What You’ll Do

  • Review inpatient medical records and accurately assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes while meeting established productivity and quality standards.
  • Maintain a consistent 95% or greater quality level while working at commercially reasonable production rates.
  • Review and validate MS-DRG assignments, identifying discrepancies and opportunities for correction.
  • Accurately abstract relevant clinical data from inpatient medical records.
  • Research and resolve inpatient coding-related claims scrubber edits, including diagnosis and procedure-related edits.
  • Apply current coding guidelines, conventions, regulatory requirements, and client-specific coding practices to each account you support.
  • Stay up to date on changes to ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, Official Coding Guidelines, and MS-DRG methodology.
  • Participate in Savista and client meetings, training sessions, and other professional development opportunities as directed by management.
  • Collaborate with client staff and providers as needed to address coding and documentation-related questions.
  • Take on additional responsibilities and projects as needed to support the team and our clients.

What You’ll Bring

  • An active AHIMA or AAPC coding credential.
  • At least one year of recent inpatient coding experience, specific to the patient type for the role, within the last six months.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding guidelines and conventions.
  • Working knowledge of MS-DRG assignment and validation.
  • The ability to confidently interpret complex inpatient clinical documentation and apply appropriate coding guidelines.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to coding accuracy and quality.
  • The ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with clients and team members.
  • A passing score of 80% on applicable pre-employment assessments.
