Job description

Hi there! We're Karnov Group, and we build top-tier research tools for legal professionals in Denmark, Sweden, France and Spain. In Denmark and Sweden, you might know us for our iconic yellow or for blue books respectively. Now, we're growing our content acquisition technology team. If you are a software developer with an interest in data munching backend systems, and if you have experience with Ruby or similar dynamic languages, we've got an exciting opportunity for you!

About the Team

You'll join our content acquisition team, a team of mostly Ruby developers located in Stockholm and Copenhagen. We're crucial to Karnov's success in the Nordics, ensuring the flow of content that powers all our products. You'll collaborate with engineers from our online product and AI teams, as well as content technology experts, and our strong teams of editors and domain experts.

About the Role

As a Ruby developer on our team, you'll work on systems that crawl online resources and publish well-structured and enriched content and metadata to our content management system. You'll also develop monitoring tools for editors and compliance workflows. Here's what to expect:

  • Backend focus: Most of your work will involve background jobs that do the heavy lifting.

  • A bit of fullstack: There will be some frontend work, but this is a backend-heavy role.

  • Data, data, data: Our content is in XML, so you should be comfortable with Nokogiri. Brush up on your SQL skills, too!

  • Cloud-based: Our applications are cloud-hosted, and we use CI/CD with Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Ownership and flexibility: As a mid-level developer, you'll take ownership of your work, but we offer independence and a flexible work-from-home policy.

  • Location: The role is on-site in our Stockholm or Copenhagen office.

Our Tech Stack

  • Ruby, RSpec for testing

  • Ruby on Rails, Sidekiq for background jobs

  • Postgres and Redis

  • Docker and Kubernetes

What We're Looking For

  • Solid skills in Ruby: You have a solid foundation in Ruby or a similar dynamic programming language. You have no aversion to writing tests. You are comfortable with using AI tools in your workflow, but accept ownership of and responsibility for anything created with those tools.

  • Curiosity beyond the framework: We are using Ruby on Rails as the framwork for our applications, but most of our code wrangles data in some form or another, so you should be ready to think beyond models, controllers, and views.

  • Independence: You can work independently within a team environment.

Bonus Points

  • SQL knowledge: You're comfortable with SQL and can write efficient queries.

  • XML knowledge: You're familiar with XML and have worked with it before.

About Karnov Group

We're looking to fill this position ASAP and will review applications as they come in. If you have questions, reach out to our team lead, Martin Stein.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
