This role can be based in Salt Lake City, UT with a hybrid work arrangement or performed remotely within the United States.

YOU ARE: The Tax Manager is responsible for supporting all aspects of PROG Holdings’ U.S. federal and multi-state income tax function, including select international tax matters. Reporting to the Director of Tax, this role plays a key part in executing tax compliance, provision, planning, and audit activities across a publicly traded, multi-entity organization.
You are a technically strong tax professional who can balance compliance and provision responsibilities while managing audits, notices, and strategic tax initiatives. You are comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment and take ownership of delivering accurate, timely, and high-quality results.
YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:
Manage and review federal and multi-state income tax returns, ensuring timely and accurate filing
Coordinate multi-state tax compliance, including apportionment and state-specific requirements
Support quarterly and annual ASC 740 tax provision calculations, including effective tax rate analysis and related adjustments
Assist with preparation of tax-related financial disclosures for SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q)
Partner with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure accurate and timely deliverables
Support international tax compliance and documentation for cross-border and intercompany transactions
Contribute to tax planning strategies aimed at optimizing cash taxes and effective tax rate
Partner with FP&A to support tax rate forecasting and long-range planning
Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, scalability, and accuracy
Leverage tax technology platforms (e.g., Workday, OneSource) to streamline workflows
Support finance transformation initiatives, including automation and AI-enabled improvements
Manage and respond to tax audits, notices, and examinations across federal and state jurisdictions
Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation and support tax position analysis
Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, IT, and external stakeholders to support evolving business needs
YOU’LL BRING:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred
5–8+ years of progressive tax experience, including public accounting or public company experience
Strong knowledge of ASC 740 income tax accounting and financial reporting requirements
Experience supporting multi-entity, consolidated tax environments
Proven ability to manage tax audits, notices, and uncertain tax positions
Familiarity with SOX controls within the tax function
Experience with tax technology tools such as Workday and OneSource
Exposure to financial services, fintech, or related industries (preferred)
Experience with automation, AI tools, or finance transformation initiatives (preferred)
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders across the organization
