Society Insurance is seeking an experienced Claims Manager to join our Workers Compensation team. In this leadership role, you will provide direction, oversight, and support to a team of claims professionals while promoting consistent, effective claim handling and quality outcomes for policyholders, injured workers, agency partners, and the organization. You will also collaborate with internal business partners, identify opportunities to improve processes, support strategic claims initiatives, and help foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous development.

 

About the Role 

  • Ensures the timely completion, analysis, and reporting of quality reviews and appropriate feedback to and mentoring of claims staff.
  • Manages team on their file handling as well as their engagement, growth in claims handling knowledge, and their career growth.
  • Assists the Director of Claims in the selection, orientation, training, and development of claims staff.
  • Analyzes current business ‎processes and workflows for compliance and prepares revision recommendations in order to maintain compliance. Works with technical team to implement recommendations.
  • Accomplishes claims support operations by managing the claims support process, evaluating work results, and enforcing claims support productivity standards. 
  • Provides oversight to staff with recommendations and action by reviewing and analyzing damages, coverage, and liability issues for area of discipline ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal laws. Identifies ongoing claims training needs. 
  • Works with Director of Claims to develop training programs and identifies expert speakers to address training needs of the department.
  • Analyzes current business ‎processes and workflows for compliance and prepares revision recommendations in order to maintain compliance. Works with technical team to implement recommendations. Focuses on continuous improvement to streamline processes.
  • Acts as a Subject Matter Expert and collaborates closely with the Underwriting, Risk Control, and Marketing departments by providing feedback on claims trends.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending continuing education classes and courses to identify current and future changes for specific areas of discipline. This may require travel to attend seminars, training opportunities, monitoring trade publications, and developing key relationships with local contacts who are experts in the region and subject matter.
  • Monitors data available including but not limited to key metrics, reports, dashboards, and claim audits to drive strategic and departmental goals while keeping claim costs and expenses reasonable and necessary. 
  • Assists in identifying vendors and products for Claims functions. Also assists with conducting periodic reviews and audits to ensure department and/or vendor guidelines are being met with the goal to provide high level service, claim cost saving measures, and expenses savings.

What it Will Take

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field and 10 years of experience in the direct handling of complex workers’ compensation claims in IL, IN, CO, MN, WI, or TX – OR – 14 years of experience in multi-line claims including the following: direct field claims losses, coverage analysis, litigation management, and substantial claims supervisory experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain proper licensing prior to handling a state where Society requires it.
  • A proven record of exemplary performance in direct handling of losses and claims supervision.
  • Recognized high-level designation (example: CPCU, AIC, CIC).
  • Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Prior workers’ compensation claims handling experience in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, and Texas is highly desirable.
  • Significant experience directly handling small, medium, and large workers’ compensation claim investigations, experience with litigated workers’ compensation claims is highly desirable.
