POSITION SUMMARY


The NAACP Empowerment Programs, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for equal rights, seeks a Program Manager, Environmental and Climate Justice, who is a dynamic and innovative leader who has a foundational understanding of environmental and climate justice issues, can produce high-quality written work, gather and translate research and information for internal and external audiences and contribute to the overall strategic direction of the Association.

 

TheCenter for Environmental and Climate Justiceis one of the Centers of Innovation (C-HOPE) at the NAACP. The Center’s team of subject matter experts work with our robust national network of member units and their local communities to execute transformative strategies. The Center proactively disrupts the inequitable systems that disproportionately impact Black Americans. The Center responds to environmental and climate justice issues leveraging change levers through a comprehensive, multi-stakeholder advocacy approach.

 

The Program manager is a key member of the team, who assists in tracking and managing environmental and climate justice issues as outlined in the Center’s priority areas of work. Additionally, program manager is the day-to-day operational lead for administrative needs within the Center.

 

The ideal candidate has the capacity to work with the Director for the Center for Environmental and Climate Justice to carry out the goals within the Center and how the NAACP can address rapidly evolving challenges in the field. The ideal candidate has expertise in and knowledge of environmental and climate justice issues as well as complex short-term and long-term project management and campaigns. Attention to detail in work product, an ability to problem solve and think critically, and a high level of emotional intelligence is required.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES


Under the direction of the Director, Environmental Climate and Justice, the Program Manager will perform the following duties, to include, but not limited to:  

  • Contribute to the implementation of a strategic portfolio of work.
  • Establish and maintain processes for managing campaigns, initiatives, and projects.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans including scope, objectives, and timelines; coordinate internal and external resources to ensure projects adhere to schedule and budget.
  • Ensure responsive and effective communication internally and externally to partners.
  • Develop resources, letters, presentations, and other materials.
  • Manage and coordinate team, committee, speaking engagements, conferences, and other meetings.
  • Foster, cultivate, organize, and host small to large scale virtual and in-person meetings that maintain and expand the Center for Environmental and Climate Justice’s network.
  • Track multi-year program initiatives in accordance with expected outcomes and financial performance.
  • Track and draft administrative and operations reports, briefs, documents.
  • Coordinate reporting functions and track key metrics and outcomes of the team’s grant-funded and other work.
  • Draft reports, internal and external memoranda, briefs, public comments, and other written communications to various audiences
  • Serve as the liaison to teams and audiences, providing representation where appropriate.
  • Leverage appropriate tools to ensure efficiencies and quality of work.
  • Deliver high quality, timely work product.
  • Think strategically, anticipate challenges, envision growth, reflect thoughtfully, and embrace change.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director, Center for Environmental and Climate Justice or other designee.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum of three to five years’ experience in program/project management or related field; experience in non-profit, policy, advocacy, or other civil rights organizations preferred.
  • Knowledge of environmental and climate justice issues.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred.
  • Six Sigma Certification preferred.
  • Practical experience with Lean or Six Sigma methodologies preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading small- and large-scale projects.
  • Experience in a fast-paced highly dynamic, evolving organization and work environment in a national, academic, or nonprofit organization program management position.
  • Effective communication skills including exceptional written and verbal skills, excellent people skills, and strong relationship-building skills with an ability to collaborate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Public speaking skills and ability to create and deliver presentations before high-profile audiences.
  • Strong execution, analytical and organizational skills and demonstrated experience in prioritizing and executing multiple priorities, programs, and projects seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated abilities in planning meetings and large events, writing, organizing, and training skills.
  • Demonstrated strong proactive problem-solving skills with strong decision-making capability.
  • Work effectively both independently, as well as, in a team-oriented, collaborative, and collegial environment; and
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook, and related Project Management Software.
