Job description

This is a remote position.

The opportunity

Our client is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with a passion for building high-quality software applications that improve the way people access healthcare.

You will join a highly collaborative engineering organization working alongside Software Engineers, Quality Engineers, Product Managers, Designers, and other stakeholders within an Agile/Scrum environment.

You will contribute to and enhance an active telemedicine platform serving patients across all 50 U.S. states. The platform includes a Patient Dashboard, which enables patients to interact with their care team, and a Clinician Dashboard, which enables healthcare professionals to view, manage, and communicate with patients.

This is a hands-on engineering role with significant ownership across the software development lifecycle, from technical design and implementation through testing, deployment, and production support.

The engineering team works in a collaborative Agile/Scrum environment, with a strong focus on software quality, maintainability, accessibility, repeatable engineering practices, and continuous improvement.

What you will do

General

  • Assist with the design of software components, applications, and services.

  • Participate actively in the Agile/Scrum process, currently organized around two-week sprints.

  • Work with internal and external platform stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into actionable development tasks.

  • Communicate complex engineering concepts, technical decisions, and potential impacts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Participate in task estimation, technical design, development, code reviews, testing, debugging, and defect resolution.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering practices and development processes.

Technical

  • Develop high-quality software across the full technology stack, currently including React, TypeScript, Python/Flask, and PostgreSQL.

  • Build accessible and intuitive web components using React, with a strong understanding of HTML and CSS.

  • Design and implement new integrations while maintaining and improving existing integrations and partnerships.

  • Write clear and maintainable code that can be easily understood, maintained, and extended by other engineers.

  • Document new and modified code, technical decisions, and relevant implementation details.

  • Develop and maintain unit and integration tests to validate changes and protect product quality.

  • Identify and manage technical risks associated with larger projects and initiatives.

  • Apply appropriate software design patterns to organize and solve complex engineering problems.

  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve significant software defects and production issues.

  • Contribute to improving existing code and architecture to make systems more efficient, maintainable, and scalable.

Collaboration & Technical Leadership

  • Participate in and lead peer reviews of technical designs.

  • Regularly review pull requests and provide constructive technical feedback.

  • Collaborate with engineers to break large initiatives into manageable technical tasks and subtasks.

  • Contribute to technical specifications, implementation plans, documentation, and validation plans.

  • Partner with Product and Design teams to translate requirements and UI mockups into intuitive, production-ready interfaces.

  • Partner with Quality Engineering to ensure product requirements are consistently validated and delivered.

  • Propose and help implement improvements to engineering processes, with an emphasis on repeatable and scalable software patterns.

  • Mentor and support other engineers when needed.

  • Contribute to technical decision-making within the engineering team and help raise overall engineering standards.

  • Experience developing, maintaining, and integrating APIs and third-party services.

  • Experience writing unit and integration tests.

  • Strong understanding of software design principles and design patterns.

  • Experience participating in code reviews and providing constructive technical feedback.

  • Ability to take ownership of features across the full development → deployment → launch lifecycle.

  • Ability to review existing designs and code and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, maintainability, and scalability.

  • Ability to break complex technical initiatives into smaller, actionable tasks.

  • Experience writing technical specifications and implementation documentation.

  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify and resolve significant software defects.

  • Ability to work effectively with Product, Design, Quality Engineering, and other cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Willingness and ability to mentor and support other engineers.

  • Experience working in healthcare technology, telemedicine, or other regulated industries.

  • Experience building patient-facing or clinician-facing applications.

  • Experience working with accessibility standards and accessible web applications.

  • Experience working in high-growth startup environments.

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
