Job description

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for experienced Australian litigation and disputes lawyers with strong expertise in contentious matters, procedural law, legal analysis, and professional legal review.

This role focuses on evaluating responses to real-world questions of Australian law. Selected lawyers will compare outputs produced by two legal research systems, assess their accuracy and reasoning against a standardised rubric, and provide concise expert feedback.

  • Apply practical judgement developed through litigation or disputes practice

Comparative Legal Analysis

  • Review responses generated independently by two different systems
  • Compare outputs side by side for accuracy, relevance, completeness, and reasoning quality
  • Identify meaningful differences in legal analysis and conclusions
  • Determine which response more effectively addresses the underlying legal question
  • Distinguish substantive legal deficiencies from minor drafting differences

Procedural Law Review

  • Assess responses involving Australian court procedure and litigation processes
  • Evaluate procedural reasoning, deadlines, remedies, jurisdictional considerations, and litigation strategy where relevant
  • Identify incorrect or incomplete treatment of procedural requirements
  • Review whether conclusions appropriately reflect the applicable legal framework
  • Apply experienced judgement to realistic contentious-law scenarios

Legal Research & Reasoning

  • Assess whether authorities and legal principles are used appropriately
  • Evaluate the logical progression from legal issue to conclusion
  • Identify unsupported assumptions or gaps in analysis
  • Review whether answers address the relevant facts and issues directly
  • Assess overall professional credibility from the perspective of an experienced practitioner

Structured Evaluation & Scoring

  • Score each response against a provided standardised rubric
  • Apply evaluation criteria consistently across assignments
  • Document material errors and strengths clearly
  • Provide concise written justification for evaluation decisions
  • Complete reviews independently and within agreed deadlines

Ideal Profile

  • At least 2 years of law-firm or barristers' chambers experience, with 3+ years preferred
  • Professional experience focused on litigation, disputes, contentious practice, or commercial litigation
  • Primarily law-firm or chambers background is required
  • Candidates currently working in-house may be suitable where they moved in-house within the last 2 years following relevant firm or chambers experience
  • Qualified to practise in Australia
