Job description

Empath Health is seeking an experienced Associate General Counsel to provide strategic legal guidance and trusted counsel across a dynamic, mission-driven healthcare organization. Reporting to senior leadership, this role advises on healthcare regulatory matters, corporate transactions, compliance initiatives, operational issues, and risk management strategies. The Associate General Counsel will collaborate with leaders throughout the organization to support business objectives while ensuring adherence to applicable laws and regulations.

This is a remote position with occasional travel required approximately 4-6 times per year. While Florida Bar membership is preferred, qualified candidates licensed in another U.S. jurisdiction who are eligible to obtain Florida Authorized House Counsel status are encouraged to apply.

  • Provide legal counsel on healthcare regulatory, compliance, operational, and corporate matters.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of contracts, agreements, and business transactions.
  • Advise leadership on legal risks and develop practical, business-focused solutions.
  • Support organizational compliance with federal and state healthcare laws and regulations.
  • Assist with governance, policy development, investigations, and dispute resolution matters.
  • Monitor and interpret legal and regulatory developments impacting healthcare operations.

What You'll Need

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Florida Bar membership preferred, or eligibility to obtain Florida Authorized House Counsel status.
  • Significant experience practicing healthcare law, preferably within a health system, hospice, home health, post-acute care, or other highly regulated healthcare environment.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulatory, compliance, contracting, and corporate legal matters.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, analytical, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment and travel 4-6 times annually as needed.
