A bootstrapped music-tech startup developing a real-time personalized music platform that adapts music to users’ biometric data, movements, and intended activities. Its product ecosystem includes a React Native mobile application, native wearable applications, Apple Watch integrations, and AWS-based cloud infrastructure. The company operates in a hands-on startup environment that values initiative, autonomy, proactivity, and end-to-end ownership.
What makes this project exciting?
We are looking for a hands-on QA Automation Engineer who will establish the automation testing approach from the ground up while also performing regular manual testing. This is a highly autonomous role for someone comfortable working in a small startup environment, investigating new technologies, and taking full ownership of product quality.
What makes you a great fit
- Commercial experience in both manual and automation QA.
- Strong hands-on experience with mobile application testing.
- Experience testing wearable applications or Apple Watch integrations
- Practical experience building or significantly expanding a test automation framework.
- Strong JavaScript skills for developing automated tests.
- Experience with mobile automation tools such as Appium or similar technologies.
- Understanding of mobile application architecture and end-to-end testing approaches.
- Experience setting up test environments and integrating automated tests into development workflows.
- Ability to test integrations between mobile applications, wearable devices, backend services, and cloud infrastructure.
- Understanding of regression testing, backward compatibility, and release validation.
- Ability to investigate unfamiliar tools and independently recommend appropriate technical solutions.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and troubleshooting skills.
- Good written and spoken English.
Nice to Have
- Experience testing React Native applications.
- Familiarity with native iOS or Android technologies, particularly Swift or Java.
- Experience with AWS-based products.
- Experience with APIs and backend integration testing.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated test execution.
- Previous experience working in a bootstrapped or early-stage startup.
- Interest in music, fitness, wellness, biometrics, or wearable technologies.
Your day-to-day in this position
- Design and implement the mobile test automation strategy from scratch.
- Research and select suitable tools and technologies for testing mobile and wearable applications.
- Set up and maintain the required automation environments and test infrastructure.
- Develop automated tests using JavaScript.
- Build automated coverage for critical end-to-end user flows across the React Native mobile application and connected wearable applications.
- Ensure backward compatibility and identify regressions across releases.
- Perform regular manual testing of new features, bug fixes, integrations, and complete user flows.
- Test mobile and Apple Watch functionality, including communication between the mobile and wearable applications.
- Create clear test plans, test cases, and QA documentation.
- Identify, document, prioritize, and track defects.
- Work closely with developers to investigate issues and validate fixes.
- Proactively identify quality risks and recommend improvements to the development and release processes.
- Take ownership of QA activities and help establish effective quality standards as the product evolves.
