Water & Wastewater Treatment

Water is wonderful. Without it we’d be lost. With it, everything’s possible. For every toothbrush, for every loo flushed. For the hot showers, the cool drinks, the cups of tea. (Because honestly? There’s nothing that can’t be sorted over a nice cup of tea.) But it’s not just at the heart of our homes. It’s at the heart of everything; our schools, our businesses, our hospitals. Saving lives, helping communities thrive. It’s essential, and we simply cannot live without it.We’re Severn Trent, a diverse and amazing group of people who want to keep it that way. We bring you clean water and we take it away safely too. But it’s not just what we do. It’s how we do it: not just talking, but going over and above. Stepping up and rolling our sleeves up. And it’s why we do it: because we care. Not only about our water but our little corner of the country and the community we serve. We care for our amazing colleagues who without them none of this would be possible. We care about making sure they reflect the communities we work in too. At Severn Trent we do more, because we care.

Job description

At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide when it comes to employee engagement and ranked as a Top 50 UK Employer on Glassdoor. Join us to make a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

We are looking for a Network Gang Operative to join our Water Networks team covering the Edgbaston area.

We are seeking a skilled and proactive individual to support the repair, maintenance and installation of key water network assets. In this role, you will be responsible for working on mains meters, pressure reducing valves (PRVs), sluice valves and fire hydrants, including installations, replacements and upgrades. You will also carry out burst main repairs, including the installation of new bypasses and replacement of existing systems.

You’ll play a vital role in ensuring the network operates safely and efficiently. Alongside your technical responsibilities, you will engage directly with customers, keeping them informed and reassured throughout each stage of the work.

You'll be given a vehicle to do your job around the Edgbaston patch. This means having a Valid Full UK Drivers Licence is essential.  With this being such a critical role, we’re looking for someone who can join us 42.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday with a standby rota of 1 week in every 7.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

You’ll be someone with a strong commitment to following company processes and maintaining the highest standards of health and safety is essential, as you help deliver reliable services and minimise disruption to the community.

You’ll be a strong team player who is dependable and consistent in their approach, with a positive attitude, good practical hands-on skills, and effective written and verbal communication abilities.

Experience in the water industry is desirable, as is holding an NRSWA (New Roads & Street Works Act) qualification and an EUSR (Energy & Utility Skills Register) is again, desirable but not essential.

Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome and celebrate diverse individuals, knowing they help us better serve our communities. We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.

HOW WE’LL REWARD AND CARE FOR YOU

It's not just a job; it's a career. We offer benefits that reward great work and award-winning training to help you reach your potential. Plus, you'll contribute to the environment and community too. Here are some of our favourites:
