Job description

Overview:

Sprout is a global IT hardware retirement provider for hyperscaler and enterprise clients. We leverage a nationwide footprint (and international partner network) combined with proprietary software to enable efficient end-to-end IT asset disposition with a focus on data-bearing devices from the client to the cloud. The company is headquartered in Charlotte, NC with additional operations near Sacramento, Dallas, and Boston. Sprout provides software and services to clients in the form of our IT Asset Disposition, Certified Destruction, and Responsible Recycling solutions.

Since our founding as an electronic waste startup from a Duke University dorm room in 2014, we have been expanding at an average rate of >50% each year. By adhering to our 3 values (One Sprout, Deliver Excellence, and Integrity Matters), we are proud of our culture to move at #SproutSpeed seeking to become the emerging leader in our industry

Sprout is investing heavily in technology — platform modernization, ERP capability, infrastructure, data, and security. We need to build the project management discipline that turns funded initiatives into delivered, adopted, measurable outcomes: clear intake and prioritization, realistic plans, clear status and blockers, and business operations that are ready to use what we ship.

As PMO Director you own that discipline. You will build and lead a federated PMO — setting the standards, methodology, and governance that project managers across the organization work within, and directly leading the largest and most critical technology and cross-functional programs yourself. You will also own the change side of delivery: stakeholder engagement, communication, training, and adoption, so that technology investments produce realized benefits rather than shelfware.

This role is equal parts executive partner and practitioner. You will sit in front of senior and executive leadership presenting portfolio health and hard tradeoffs, and you will also be in the room with a project team fixing a plan that is not working.

Responsibilities:

• Build and mature the PMO. Establish governance, delivery standards, methodology, templates, and stage gates that are proportionate to Sprout — rigorous enough to be useful, light enough that teams actually use them.

• Own portfolio intake and prioritization. Create a single, credible front door for technology demand. Ensure initiatives are scoped, estimated, sequenced against capacity, and tied to a business case before they consume resources.

• Give executives real visibility. Deliver clear, consistent reporting on project health, risk, budget, dependencies, and milestones — including the news leadership does not want to hear, early enough to act on.

• Lead major programs directly. Personally run the largest cross-functional technology programs, spanning platform, ERP, infrastructure, security, and data.

• Own change strategy and adoption. Define and execute stakeholder engagement, communication, training, and readiness plans so operations and business teams are prepared before go-live, not after.

• Manage risk, dependencies, and escalation. Identify cross-project conflicts and resource contention early, drive them to resolution, and escalate with a recommendation rather than a problem.

• Coach project managers. Raise delivery capability across a federated group of PMs and project leads who may not report to you directly. Set expectations, review plans, give feedback, and build the bench.

• Partner with vendors and delivery partners. Hold external partners to the same delivery and reporting standards as internal teams, including statement of work scope, milestones, and acceptance.

• Measure benefit realization. Define what success looks like before a project starts and go back afterward to confirm whether we got it.

Qualifications:

• 10+ years leading technology project and program delivery, including time in a PMO leadership role.

• Demonstrated experience building or substantially maturing a PMO — not just operating inside one that already existed.

• Track record delivering large-scale technology programs such as ERP, infrastructure, cybersecurity, or enterprise platform implementations.

• Organizational change management experience — stakeholder engagement, communications, training, and business readiness.

• Disciplined risk, issue, and dependency management across a portfolio, including surfacing cross-project contention before it becomes a schedule problem.

• Hands-on cutover and go-live leadership — deployment planning, dress rehearsals, hypercare, and the judgment to call a rollback.

• Comfort operating in a federated model, leading and influencing project managers and business leads who do not report to you.

• Experience developing project managers — coaching, feedback, and raising delivery capability in people who are not necessarily your direct reports.

• Executive presence. You can present portfolio health and tradeoffs to senior leadership, and hold a position under pressure.

• Fluency with budgets, business cases, resource planning, and vendor and SOW management.

• Judgment about how much process is enough. Sprout is a mid-sized, fast-moving company; process that would work at a Fortune 100 will fail here.

• Strong written communication. Status, risk, and decision documents are a primary deliverable of this role
