Total Rewards Manager

Location: Remote (U.S.) – New York-based company

Position Summary

The Total Rewards Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of the company's compensation, benefits, and leave programs. This role serves as the subject matter expert for Total Rewards and partners closely with HR, Finance, Payroll, and business leaders to ensure programs are competitive, compliant, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in compensation and benefits strategy, strong analytical capabilities, and experience leading enterprise-wide projects. Continuous improvement and project management experience are highly desirable as the organization continues to scale and optimize processes.

Key Responsibilities

Compensation

  • Develop and execute the company's total rewards and compensation strategy.
  • Lead job architecture initiatives, including job families, leveling frameworks, career paths, and compensation structures.
  • Conduct market pricing and compensation benchmarking using industry surveys and life sciences market data.
  • Partner with HR Business Partners and business leaders to provide compensation guidance and support workforce planning decisions.
  • Manage annual compensation programs, including merit cycles, salary planning, promotions, and market adjustments.
  • Design, administer, and evaluate incentive compensation and bonus plans.
  • Analyze compensation trends and recommend program enhancements to support attraction and retention of talent.
  • Ensure compensation programs remain competitive, equitable, and compliant with applicable regulations.
  • Partner with Finance and business leaders to develop incentive compensation strategies, conduct plan effectiveness analyses, and recommend program enhancements that align pay with performance and company objectives.

Benefits & Well-Being

  • Manage all benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, retirement plans, and voluntary benefits.
  • Serve as primary relationship manager for benefits brokers, consultants, and external vendors.
  • Lead annual open enrollment planning, communications, and execution.
  • Oversee leave of absence programs, including compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Drive employee education and engagement regarding benefit offerings.
  • Evaluate utilization, costsand effectiveness of benefit programs and recommend improvements.

 Governance & Operations

  • Partner with Payroll, Finance, and HR Operations to ensure accurate administration of compensation and benefits programs.
  • Manage vendor performance, contracts, renewals, and service-level expectations.
  • Establish policies, procedures, and controls that support compliance and operational excellence.

Process Improvement & Project Leadership

  • Lead cross-functional projects related to compensation, benefits, and HR transformation initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes through Lean methodologies and continuous improvement practices.
  • Support HR technology implementations and enhancements impacting Total Rewards programs.
  • Drive change management and stakeholder engagement for enterprise initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive Total Rewards experience, including significant compensation ownership.
  • Experience designing compensation programs, job architecture frameworks, and incentive plans.
  • Strong benefits management and vendor management experience.
  • Advanced analytical and data interpretation skills.
  • Experience within the life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or highly regulated industries preferred.
  • Project management experience a plus
