Job Summary

The Infectious Diseases/Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Pharmacist will support and advance Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) initiatives across Mass General Brigham. While primarily based at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH), this position also supports system antimicrobial stewardship initiatives through multi-site clinical cross-coverage. The position combines direct clinical support with system-focused stewardship efforts. This pharmacist will collaborate closely with interdisciplinary clinical teams to optimize antimicrobial therapy, support evidence-based prescribing practices, and promote safe and effective use of anti-infective agents. The pharmacist will play a key role in advancing a unified Mass General Brigham Antimicrobial Stewardship Program by supporting implementation of system-wide stewardship initiatives while partnering with local clinical teams to ensure stewardship strategies are effectively integrated into day-to-day patient care.

Key responsibilities include prospective audit and feedback, interpretation of microbiologic results, and providing patient-centered recommendations for antimicrobial regimen optimization aimed at improving clinical outcomes while minimizing antimicrobial resistance, medication-related toxicities, and other unintended patient harms. Additional responsibilities include development and implementation of clinical guidelines, workflows, as well as support for regulatory compliance, accreditation readiness, and quality improvement initiatives.


 

Qualifications

Clinical Pharmacists assume responsibility and accountability for the provision of safe, effective, and prompt medication therapy. They provide direct patient-centered care and integrated pharmacy operational services with physicians, nurses, and other hospital personnel to deliver optimal medication therapy to patients with a broad range of disease states. Clinical pharmacists are aligned with interdisciplinary programs and specialty services to deliver medication therapy management and to ensure pharmaceutical care programs are appropriately integrated throughout the institution. They serve as departmental resources and liaisons, promote the appropriate use of medications in accordance with professional and regulatory standards, and contribute to quality improvement, practice advancement, and medication-use initiatives. Finally, Clinical Pharmacists also participate in practice-related research, provide practice-related education/training, and actively serve as preceptors for pharmacy residents and Doctor of Pharmacy students.

REQUIRED: 

Must be eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts 

  • Postgraduate training or work experience consisting of meeting at least 1 of the following criteria: 

  • At least 1 year of postgraduate training 

  • 3 years of practice experience in an acute care setting  

  • Board Certification by examination, or equivalent certification, in infectious diseases is preferred, required within 18 months of hiring 

 

PREFERRED: 

  • Completion of ASHP-accredited PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency or Fellowship preferred 

  • Current Board Certification by examination, or equivalent certification, in infectious diseases

  • Knowledge and ability in all areas of the department including: IV Admixtures, Drug Information, Ambulatory, Manufacturing, and Drug Distribution.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate appropriate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span of the neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient.
  • Possess ability to assess patient data relative to age specific needs and Provide care as described in the department's policies/procedures.
  • Contributes system wide initiatives; viewed as a SME in their area of practice.
  • Works predominantly independently.
  • Takes part in site and system wide initiatives as a subject matter expert in their area of practice.
  • Develops and participates in department quality improvement efforts.
  • Develops and participates in the training of medical, nursing, and allied health professionals.
  • Must complete 20 continuing education credits per year to maintain license.
