Senior Java Engineer

Location: Remote (U.S.)
Salary: $130,000 - $150,000 annually

Clearance: Public Trust Eligibility

Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Java Engineer to lead the design, development, and modernization of scalable Java-based microservices and APIs in a cloud-native environment. This role requires strong hands-on engineering experience, technical leadership, and expertise migrating legacy applications to modern architectures.

Key Responsibilities

Lead migration of legacy monolithic applications to Java-based microservices.
Design, develop, and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
Deploy and manage applications in AWS Kubernetes environments.
Optimize database performance, scalability, and reliability.
Develop secure, production-grade applications using Java, Spring Boot, and Hibernate.
Implement authentication, authorization, and secure coding practices.
Support integrations with internal, external, and third-party systems.
Leverage AI-assisted development tools, including GitHub Copilot.
Participate in production support and on-call rotations.

Required Qualifications

8+ years of Java development experience.
Strong expertise with Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and REST APIs.
Experience modernizing legacy applications into microservices architectures.
Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar relational databases.
Knowledge of OAuth and application security best practices.
Strong troubleshooting, leadership, and communication skills.
Ability to mentor engineers while remaining hands-on with development.

Preferred Qualifications

Ruby-to-Java migration experience.
Federal government or healthcare IT experience.
Experience with AWS cloud services and CI/CD pipelines.

Clearance & Eligibility Requirements

Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Candidates must have lived continuously within the United States for the previous three (3) consecutive years to meet federal background investigation requirements.
Must successfully pass a government suitability review and background investigation.
