American Specialty Health Incorporated is seeking a Benefits Specialist to join our Human Resources department.
The primary function of this position is to deliver high-level customer service and perform and maintain the day-to-day administrative functions for the Company's benefits programs, including but not limited to health and welfare plans, 401k, tuition and athletic event reimbursement and wellness programs.
Salary Range
American Specialty Health complies with state and federal wage and hour laws and compensation depends upon candidate’s qualifications, education, skill set, years of experience, and internal equity. $48,000.00 to $65,000.00 Full-Time Annual Salary range.
Remote Worker Guidelines
- Remote Worker Guidelines: This position will be trained remotely and must be able to work from home (WFH) in a designated work area with company-provided technology equipment. This WFH position requires you have a stable connection to your Internet Service Provider with the ability to participate by video in online meetings over a reliable and consistent network. The internet connection must have a consistent 50 down/10 up Mbps minimum internet speed. 100 down/20 up is recommended to support higher quality video meetings.
Responsibilities
- Assists with Maintaining the Employee Benefit Programs.
- Prepares and distributes weekly benefit emails to new hires via Benefits Prime in a timely manner and maintains excel tracking spreadsheet, meeting with new hires to review benefits as needed.
- Keeps manager informed of urgent issues to allow upward communication and/or elevation to a higher level.
- Recognizes unique and/or problem situations within assigned area of responsibility. Researches, and formulates solutions in conjunction with Benefits Manager.
- Assists Sr. Specialist, Benefits with benefit billing process for employees on leave of absence.
- Assists Sr. Specialist, Benefits with maintaining Payroll Benefit spreadsheet to include tracking retro payments and leave of absence payments, etc.
- Assists Sr. Specialist, Benefits as needed with processing of qualified life events and maintenance of Benefits Prime administration.
- Assists Sr. Specialist, Benefits with processing and tracking qualified life events in UltiPro Benefits Prime.
- Reviews and responds to Benefit email box inquiries daily and in a timely manner.
- Reviews, reconciles, and processes monthly vendor billings for payment.
- Reviews, monitors and processes monthly Incentive report for proper employee deductions per the company’s Value Based Incentive Program.
- Reviews and processes reimbursement requests for Athletic Event and Tuition Reimbursement in accordance with policy and forwards to manager for approval.
- Reviews and maintains dependent documentation for newly added dependents. Sends timely email reminders and maintains Excel tracking spreadsheet, communicating with employees as needed.
- Reviews Medical Waiver Benefit forms and documentation for Medical Waiver Benefit and starts required deductions.
- Meets with employees as needed to answer benefit questions.
- Monitors new hire benefit enrollments within UltiPro Benefits Prime, tracking and maintaining manual benefit entries for Healthyroads and other benefits, including life event changes.
- Assists with annual coordination of onsite flu shots and biometric screenings for all locations.
- Assists with annual open enrollment to include, preparation, development and distribution of employee communications and forms, coordination and set-up of employee benefits fair for all locations and travels to other locations to assist with onsite benefit fairs and biometric screenings, as needed.
- Assists with maintenance and distribution of all benefit related materials.
- Communicates benefit changes and required information to employees, in accordance with policies and regulations.
- Provides guidance to Company’s multi-state employees, acting as a liaison between third-party benefit vendors and employees and advises employees on eligibility, coverage, and other benefits matters in a clear and concise manner. Also provides assistance to employees and/or dependents in resolving escalated benefit or claim payment issues or corrections to benefit plans or enrollment.
- Assists with oversight and maintenance of company intranet benefit page.
- Creates and maintains and distributes monthly Benefit Flash postings.
- Completes required in-house ASH University Training annually.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in job related work experience. If equivalent experience, high school diploma required.
- 2 years progressive benefit administration experience required.
- Prior Ultimate Software/Benefits Prime HRIS experience a plus but not required preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word and Excel.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Demonstrated ability to understand benefit programs and administration of such plans.
- Ability to maintain sensitive, confidential information and exercise discretion and sound judgment with a high level of integrity and professionalism.
