Job purpose

The Director of Korean Initiatives (KI) provides strategic leadership for this department (both its US-based team and the team at the Regional Center in Korea) and takes primary responsibility for its administration, management, and financial sustainability. This position leads and drives the development of all of KI’s academic, promotional, and exchange programs. In addition, this position leads Westminster’s efforts to build and strengthen relationships with Korean partners and the Korean diaspora church through various initiatives.   


Duties and responsibilities

Manage all of KI’s academic and non-academic programs (50%)

  1. Supervise the KI staff in developing, operating, managing, and sustaining the Korean Doctor of Ministry and Korean Master of Arts in Theological Studies programs in cooperation with other Westminster departments.
  2. Supervise the KI staff in developing, operating, managing, and sustaining all of KI’s non-academic programs, especially in Korea (e.g., Reading Jesus project)
  3. Supervise the KI staff in strategizing the promotion and marketing of all KI programs.

Serve as a leader, speaker, spokesperson, and advocate for KI (25%)

  1. Speak, as needed, for KI’s academic and non-academic programs
  2. Lead and manage the Korean Council and other advisory groups (e.g. Reading Jesus Advisory Committee) 
  3. Report on the progress and performance of the Korean academic programs to the Senior Leadership Team (through the VP of Global) on a regular basis.
  4. Travel within the US and overseas to promote KI’s programs. 

Steward the relationships between WTS and its Korean partners (25%) 

  1. Create and execute programs to acquire, retain, and steward Korean partners/donors. 
  2. Assist the President of the seminary and the VP of Global in fundraising and outreach efforts. 
  3. With the library director, manage the SaRang Center and the Harvie Conn Center for Korean History. 
  4. Oversee all MOU’s with partner institutions in Korea (e.g., Torch Trinity).


Requirements

Skills

  • Excellent oral, written and reading skills in Korean and English
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use a Mac and PC
  • Advanced financial /budgeting skills required
  • Expert administrative skills required

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required, Ph.D. degree preferred 
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience required
  • Fluency in Korean and English
  • Understanding of and agreement with Westminster’s mission and teaching
  • Intimate knowledge of Korean culture and social conventions
  • Past development or fundraising experience preferred
  • Experience in SalesForce database preferred
  • Experience in event planning preferred

Working conditions

  • This job operates primarily in a professional office environment. 
  • This is a full-time, exempt position. Forty hours per week are expected. 
  • This job may be performed primarily remotely, but successful candidate must be able to travel (local, regional, and international) up to 25% of total position time for events and meetings with donors and alumni, and periodically to campus.

Leadership Accountability

  • This position supervises and coaches approx.18 employees.
  • This position is responsible for performance evaluations for subordinates.
  • This position makes hiring and pay recommendations and termination recommendations.
