Job description

Job Summary:

The Supplier Quality Inspector is responsible for supplier inspection, supplier quality development, and resolution of quality issues related to castings, forgings, patterns, machined parts, and associated mechanical pump components. This role works closely with suppliers and internal cross-functional teams to ensure product conformity, regulatory compliance, robust manufacturing processes, and continuous quality improvement.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Manage incoming and source inspection activities for bought-out items, including castings, forgings, patterns, machined components, and mechanical instruments. Review supplier quality documentation, including inspection reports, quality plans, Material Test Certificates (MTCs), and manufacturing records, to confirm compliance with drawings, specifications, standards, and company requirements. Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, dimensional tolerances, surface-finish requirements, material specifications, and inspection criteria. Conduct and support supplier process reviews to assess manufacturing capability, process control, repeatability, and product quality consistency. Develop, implement, and support supplier SOPs, inspection plans, process risk assessments, and mitigation actions. Identify quality issues at supplier locations during manufacturing, investigate root causes, and support timely containment, corrective actions, and process improvements. Lead NCR management with suppliers, ensuring effective root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, verification of effectiveness, and timely closure. Plan and conduct supplier audits for supplier qualification, periodic evaluations, quality-performance improvement, and problem-resolution activities. Coordinate and review NDT/NDE activities, as applicable, including:

  • Visual Testing (VT)

  • Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)

  • Penetrant Testing (PT)

  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

  • Radiographic Testing (RT)

  • Positive Material Identification (PMI)

  • Hardness Testing

Coordinate third-party inspection activities, including scheduling, inspection readiness, documentation review, and follow-up on observations or nonconformities. Ensure supplier compliance with ISO 9001:2015 QMS requirements, applicable material standards, API, ASME, ASTM & ISO standards, customer requirements, and internal quality procedures. Work effectively with Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement, Project Management, and Quality teams to resolve supplier-related technical and quality concerns. Maintain clear communication with suppliers and internal stakeholders regarding inspection status, quality concerns, corrective-action progress, and delivery-impact risks. Drive continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen supplier capability, reduce repeat defects, improve process controls, and prevent recurrence of quality issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Supplier Quality, or Inspection, preferably in manufacturing, metal-mechanical, pumps, casting, forging, Fabrications or heavy-engineering industries.

  • Hands-on inspection experience with castings, forgings, patterns, machined components, Fabricated components and related mechanical parts.

  • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, dimensional requirements, GD&T, surface finish, material specifications, and inspection standards.

  • Experience reviewing MTCs, inspection reports, NDT reports, dimensional reports, and supplier quality documentation.

  • Knowledge of API, ASME, ASTM & ISO standards, material standards, and ISO 9001:2015 quality-management-system requirements.

  • Strong Knowledge in ASME standards Section II, V, VIII & IX

  • NDT Level II certification and practical experience in relevant methods such as VT, MT, PT, UT, RT, PMI, and hardness testing is preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in supplier audits, root cause analysis, CAPA, NCR management, and supplier corrective-action follow-up.

  • Ability to travel 70% to various regions of supplier locations for inspections, audits, supplier development, and quality issue resolution.

  • Experience in pump, pressure-containing equipment, or rotating-equipment manufacturing.

  • Familiarity with third-party inspection agencies and customer inspection requirements.

  • Experience applying quality tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone Diagram, 8D, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Process Capability Analysis.

  • Candidate preferably in the region of Kolhapur & Sangli region.
