Job Description:

The Court Specialist/Runner will contact courts and other data sources in order to conduct (in person, by phone, or online) criminal/civil and other forms of record checks as part of an employment background screening report (consumer report), ensuring complete, accurate and up-to-date information is obtained and reported within prescribed guidelines and deadlines.

You will work independently to complete assigned duties and must live within a 20-mile radius of the Oakland County District Court - 4280 Telegraph Road, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48302

Hours: 8:30 am-5:00 pm

Responsibilities:

  • Contact courts to request information beyond what is available on public index
  • Coordinate the pulling and review of physical court files
  • Conduct data processing, skip tracing, file retrieval, result analysis, and other investigative tasks
  • Update internal platforms with the information gathered from the courts and other data sources
  • Liaison with Records and other departments, as needed, to complete assignment or obtain clarification
  • Maintain data security and confidentiality requirements at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 1-2 years’ work experience (in an office environment), preferred
  • Previous experience as a paralegal, law firm assistant, or court records researcher, preferred
  • Familiarity with FCRA a plus
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrate personal initiative, exercise sound judgment
  • Have strong analytical abilities, be detail-oriented, and highly organized
  • Meet established deadlines, while maintaining a high level of quality
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (especially Outlook, Word, and Excel) and Internet research
  • Type 45 WPM or greater
  • Have a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report
  • Have reliable transportation/access to designated court locations
  • Live within a 20-mile radius of designated courts


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel to and access public courthouse buildings and related government facilities as part of regular job duties.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, including while waiting in lines or during on-site interactions.
  • Ability to walk variable and, at times, extended distances between parking areas, public transit stops, and courthouse buildings; distances may vary by location.
  • Ability to navigate public spaces, including stairs, elevators, security checkpoints, and crowded areas.
  • Ability to carry or transport work materials (e.g., documents, files, or a laptop) as needed.
  • Ability to perform these functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

The base pay for this position ranges from $18 to $22 an hour. Pay will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and relevant education and training.  This position may also be eligible for an annual performance-based bonus, commission, or other variable pay plan. The Company also offers a full range of benefits, including medical, dental, and 401k.
