Job description

Job Description:

Overview:

We don’t simply hire employees. We invest in them. When you work at Chatham, we empower you — offering professional development opportunities to help you grow in your career, no matter if you've been here for five months or 15 years. Chatham has worked hard to create a distinct work environment that values people, teamwork, integrity, and client service. You will have immediate opportunities to partner with talented subject matter experts, work on complex projects, and contribute to the value Chatham delivers every day.

This engagement offers the opportunity to partner directly with our product and technology teams, shape how we capture and model lease data at scale, and play a direct role in the quality and commercial relevance of the solutions we deliver to our clients.

Job Summary

As a Lease Data Product Consultant, you will serve as the commercial real estate subject matter expert embedded within Chatham's product and technology organization. Rather than performing lease abstraction yourself, you will bring practitioner judgment to bear on how we build the tooling that does it — helping design, refine, and validate the systems that extract lease data from client lease documents.

Your focus is commercial and structural, not clerical. You will help us decide what to extract and why it matters, how lease provisions should be modeled into an efficient and durable data structure, and where our current approach is leaving value on the table. You will validate tool outputs against your own expert understanding of how leases actually work, and partner closely with engineers and product managers to translate that expertise into better tooling.

You will work across a variety of lease structures and property types including office, industrial, retail, and mixed-use. The ideal candidate is someone who can sit between deep real estate knowledge and a fast-moving product team, and make both sides sharper.

The successful candidate will have direct, senior-level experience with commercial real estate leases — from the landlord/asset management side, the tenant side, or in a professional services capacity — and a demonstrated ability to think about lease data structurally rather than transactionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with product and technology teams to design and refine in-house tooling that extracts lease data from client lease documents.

  • Validate tool outputs against source documents and expert judgment, and feed structured findings back into the tooling to drive measurable quality improvements.

  • Help define and refine the data model for lease outputs — shaping how provisions are represented so the structure is efficient, scalable, and commercially meaningful.

  • Identify provisions and lease concepts that we should be extracting but currently aren't, and make the case for their inclusion based on client value and real estate relevance.

  • Diagnose where extraction tooling misinterprets ambiguous or non-standard lease language, and advise on correct interpretation and handling.

  • Bring leasing-market conventions and commercial context into product decisions, so the tooling reflects how leases actually function in practice.

  • Communicate clearly across a cross-functional team that includes non-real-estate professionals, translating complex lease concepts into terms engineers and product managers can build against.

Qualifications

  • Direct, senior-level experience with commercial real estate tenant leases — asset management, lease audit, lease administration, brokerage, or a related professional services discipline.

  • Strong structural understanding of lease terms and provisions across multiple asset classes, with the ability to reason about how lease data should be organized rather than simply recording it.

  • A product-oriented mindset: comfort working alongside technology and operational teams, and a track record of improving processes or tools rather than just operating within them.

  • Sharp judgment for identifying gaps, edge cases, and inconsistencies — and the commercial instinct to know which ones matter.

  • Clear, concise communication — written and verbal — with the ability to explain lease concepts to a non-specialist, technical audience.

  • Ability to work independently, manage a flexible workload, and deliver against defined quality standards.

  • Familiarity with structured data and comfort with Microsoft Excel preferred; exposure to data modeling, lease abstraction tooling, or proptech a strong plus.
