Performance Test Engineer

About the Role

We’re looking for a Performance Test Engineer to design, build, and own our performance testing solution. You’ll work on a scalable performance framework, simulate real-world workloads, identify system bottlenecks, and integrate performance validation into the engineering lifecycle.

What You’ll Do

• • Design and maintain performance test harnesses and load-simulation solutions from scratch with Playwright + Chrome DevTools Protocol instrumentation (JS heap, FPS, editortimeToDone/timeToIdle) or other tools.
  • Build load, stress, endurance, scalability, and concurrency tests for complex web applications and backend services.
  • Create realistic multi-user and high-scale scenarios using synthetic traffic and multi-client orchestration.
  • Define performance baselines, SLOs, regression thresholds, and automated quality gates in CI/CD pipelines.
  • Integrate performance testing with analytics and observability platforms to provide actionable insights.
  • Analyze metrics, logs, traces, CPU, heap, and memory profiles to identify bottlenecks.
  • Work with engineering teams to drive performance improvements and turn findings into permanent regression coverage.
  
  

What We’re Looking For

Required

• • 4+ years of experience building automated test infrastructure or performance and reliability tooling for production systems with TypeScript and Node.js strongly preferred.
  • Experience with sharded or parallelized performance test execution.
  • Experience designing load, stress, or concurrency test harnesses from scratch, including synthetic traffic generation, multi-client orchestration, and result analysis.
  • Solid understanding of web performance, including rendering and interaction latency, main-thread and event-loop contention, memory and garbage collection behavior, and the use of Chrome DevTools or V8 profilers to localize bottlenecks.
  • Experience testing distributed, service-oriented backends, including gRPC microservices, PostgreSQL, and Redis or Valkey caching, and reasoning about latency under concurrent load.
  • Experience using Playwright for ui performance testing scenarios.
  • A strong quality mindset that treats flaky and non-reproducible tests as bugs and turns performance findings into permanent regression coverage.
  • Experience working in a monorepo environment, ideally with Bazel.
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or similar tools.

• • Experience testing spreadsheet, formula, query, or reactive dependency-graph systems.
  • Experience testing real-time collaboration systems using Operational Transform or CRDT.
  • Experience testing rules, automation, or trigger-action workflow engines.
  • Experience with performance testing tools such as k6, Gatling, Locust, or Artillery.
  • Experience with observability tools such as Grafana, VictoriaMetrics, Tempo, Prometheus, or Datadog.
