Ehvert Mission Critical, a business unit within Salas O’Brien, is seeking an experienced Plumbing Designer for a long-term independent contractor engagement.

This is an ongoing contractual engagement with a US-based company and is not limited to a single project. The role involves continuous collaboration across multiple mission-critical projects, based on business needs.

You will provide services as an independent, self-employed professional under a formal independent contractor agreement.

Role Summary

We are seeking a skilled Plumbing Designer to support the design, modeling, and coordination of plumbing systems for cutting-edge data center projects across the U.S.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing plumbing system layouts and BIM models, preparing drawings and technical documentation, and coordinating plumbing systems with other engineering disciplines.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and contribute throughout the project lifecycle, from schematic design through detailed design and execution.

Strong technical expertise in plumbing design, proficiency with BIM tools, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Using BIM tools to model plumbing systems and coordinate with other disciplines; hands-on Autodesk Revit experience is a must
  • Developing plumbing system layouts and detailed designs for mission-critical facilities
  • Designing and modeling domestic water, sanitary waste, vent, storm drainage, and other plumbing systems
  • Developing plumbing piping layouts, equipment connections, riser diagrams, and system schematics
  • Performing plumbing calculations and supporting equipment and piping sizing
  • Producing coordinated BIM models and construction drawings
  • Developing a thorough understanding and delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, cost, and schedule
  • Determining and expediting engineering deliverables for projects
  • Developing and maintaining project scope of work documentation and revisions as required during design evolution
  • Coordinating plumbing systems with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection disciplines
  • Identifying and resolving design and coordination issues within the BIM environment
  • Ensuring designs comply with applicable plumbing, building, and project-specific codes and standards
  • Preparing technical documentation required for project execution, including drawings, schedules, specifications, calculations, and equipment data
  • Reviewing shop drawings and submittals for compliance with design intent
  • Supporting project teams throughout design development and construction
  • Performing occasional site visits to support construction progress (valid U.S. work visa considered an asset but not required)

Qualifications & Experience

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or a related technical field
  • At least 4–5 years of experience in plumbing design
  • Proven experience designing and modeling plumbing systems for commercial, industrial, or mission-critical facilities
  • Strong knowledge of domestic water, sanitary, vent, and storm drainage systems
  • Hands-on experience with Autodesk Revit – is a must
  • Experience producing coordinated BIM models and construction documentation
  • Understanding of applicable plumbing and building codes and standards
  • Experience coordinating plumbing systems with other engineering disciplines
  • Experience with U.S.-based projects and data centers is considered an advantage
  • Written and spoken English B1 and higher
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize while meeting project deadlines
  • Self-starter, ambitious, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts clearly
