Apex Companies is adding a Principal - Water & Sustainability to our team.  This is a fully remote position based in the United States.

About us 
Apex Companies delivers engineering, consulting, and field services that help clients solve complex environmental and infrastructure challenges. Our multidisciplinary teams work across water, environmental, and sustainability topics to deliver practical, cost-effective solutions that improve performance, reduce risk, and support resilient communities. 

The role 
This role connects traditional water infrastructure work with broader sustainability goals for both private and public sector clients. You will lead programs that translate stormwater, wastewater, and water infrastructure projects into measurable sustainability outcomes while supporting growth in priority sectors, including data centers, retail, and manufacturing. 

What you’ll do 

  • Build and lead water and sustainability programs from assessment through implementation 
  • Leverage Apex’s deep stormwater, water supply and wastewater expertise to identify practical sustainability opportunities 
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and deliverables 
  • Translate regulatory requirements and field insights into sustainability targets and strategies 
  • Serve as project manager and build long-term relationships 
  • Support growth in priority markets by identifying opportunities and contributing to proposals 
  • Represent Apex in client meetings, industry forums, and partner engagements 
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across engineering, field services, and sustainability 

 What you bring 

  • Must have 10+ years of experience in water resources, water stewardship, water reuse, water efficiency, water risk assessment, water infrastructure, or related fields 
  • Hands-on experience in water sustainability program development and delivery 
  • Business development experience and industry relationships that can translate to new opportunities 
  • Ability to connect technical work to sustainability outcomes 
  • Strong project management and client-facing skills 
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or related field 

Nice to have 

  • Experience in data center or mission-critical infrastructure 
  • Familiarity with CDP Water, Alliance for Water Stewardship, Volumetric Water Benefits Accounting, or similar frameworks
