About GameChanger:

We believe in the life changing impact youth sports have on and off the field. We recognize that without coaches, parents, and volunteers, organized youth sports could not exist. By building the first and best place to experience the youth sports moments important to our community, we are helping families elevate the next generation through youth sports.

So if you love sports and their community building potential, or building cool products is your sport, GameChanger is the team for you. We are a remote first, dynamic tech company based in New York City, and we are solving some of the biggest challenges in youth sports today.

The Position:

As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you will own and shape the future of our Subscriptions and Payments platforms, building systems that support our customers, drive revenue growth, and enable new business opportunities. You will play a key role in expanding our subscription ecosystem through integrations with major providers, improving the reliability and scalability of existing systems, and building new payment capabilities that enable teams across the organization to move faster. This is a highly visible, high-impact role with significant ownership over critical business systems. You'll partner closely with Engineering, Product, Design, and Data to solve complex problems, make thoughtful technical decisions, and deliver solutions that directly impact our customers and the business.

Our backend systems are built with TypeScript, Node.js, Redis, and PostgreSQL and run on AWS. You will report to the Engineering Manager of the Subscriptions and Payments Enablement team.

What You'll Do:

  • Own and drive the evolution of our Subscriptions and Payments platforms, building the foundational systems and APIs that other teams use to deliver customer-facing experiences.

  • Lead and collaborate on new feature development that supports subscription growth, monetization opportunities, and business expansion.

  • Make thoughtful architectural decisions, lead technical discussions, and provide feedback on designs across the team.

  • Improve existing systems' reliability, observability, scalability, and maintainability.

  • Build and maintain technical documentation to improve system understanding and team effectiveness.

  • Partner with Product, Design, Data, and Engineering teams to define scope, discuss tradeoffs, and deliver impactful solutions.

  • Provide thoughtful code reviews that improve code quality, maintain engineering standards, and share knowledge across the team.

  • Participate in an occasional on-call rotation with the team.

Who You Are:

  • You are a highly motivated engineer who takes ownership, drives projects forward, and finds ways to get unblocked.

  • You are someone who enjoys solving ambiguous, complex problems and collaborating with others to build thoughtful solutions.

  • You care about building reliable, scalable, and maintainable systems.

  • You are a strong communicator who can explain technical tradeoffs and partner effectively across the organization.

  • You stay curious about new technologies, including AI, and applies sound engineering judgment to improve how work gets done.

Experience:

  • 6+ years in a software development role.

  • 4+ years experience with Node.js or another backend technology.

  • 1+ years experience leading and implementing complex designs.

  • Experience with TypeScript is preferred.

  • Experience with a system deployed in an AWS environment is preferred.

Perks:

  • Work remotely or from our well-furnished, modern office in Manhattan, NY.

  • Unlimited vacation policy.

  • Technology stipend - $4,000 every 2 years to purchase new technology.

  • WFH stipend - $500 annually to make your WFH situation comfortable.

  • Full health benefits - medical, dental, vision, prescription, FSA/HRA., and coverage for family/dependents.

  • Life insurance - basic life, supplemental life, and dependent life.

  • Disability leave - short-term disability and long-term disability.

  • Retirement savings - 401K plan offered through Vanguard, with a company match.

  • Company paid access to a wellness platform to support mental, financial and physical wellbeing.
