Job description

Why Work Here

💪 Small, Profitable, and Freshly Funded

The most enduring products—Canva, Figma, Notion—took years to get right. We’ve taken the same path: stayed lean, grew through a passionate community, and tackled the hard technical problems others skipped.

Now we’ve raised $8M+ from top-tier investors with the capital and conviction to swing big. You’ll join as one of our first engineers, with real ownership and a direct hand in shaping the product and culture from the ground up.

❤️ Customer Love

Butter powers over 17,000+ brands, creators, and agencies and we've grown purely through word of mouth. People don’t just try Butter – they use it daily and tell people about it. You'll be joining as we enter our next stage of growth.

💨 A Team That Ships

We care deeply about the product experience and release weekly. We bring decades of experience building at Figma, Headspace, Meta, and Cruise. Now we’re focused on one thing: redefining what creative software can be.

🙌 World-Class Mentors

We’re backed by founders and leaders from OpenAI, Anthropic, Shopify, Notion, Airtable, and The Browser Company. They’ve built the products we admire most and now they’re helping us build ours.

About the Role

As our Head of Product Growth, you’ll build the engine that powers Butter’s scalable growth.

You’ll work directly with Design and Engineering to improve activation, retention, and monetization. Your job is to make Butter easier to understand, shorten time to value, and turn usage into sharing.

You’ll own onboarding, activation, invite loops, friction, churn diagnostics, and the experimentation roadmap. You'll be our first product growth hire with plans to grow the team as we scale, but we need someone super comfortable with being a builder now, someone great at building processes from the ground up, to set us up for success as we grow.

If you think in experiments, measure everything, and obsess over why users stall or churn, this role is for you.

Domains You'll Own

  • Activation rate

  • Time-to-first value

  • Retention curves

  • In-product loops

  • Growth modeling tied to revenue

Overall, You'll:

  • Define and instrument the core “aha” moment.

  • Identify friction in onboarding and core workflows.

  • Run structured experiments weekly.

  • Partner with design and engineering to ship improvements.

  • Analyze cohorts and behavioral segments.

  • Model LTV and help set CAC guardrails.

  • Build a growth roadmap based on constraints, not opinions.

You might be a fit if...

  • You have 5+ years in growth at a product-led company

  • You’ve improved retention, not just top-of-funnel growth

  • You have strong with data (Amplitude/Mixpanel; SQL is a plus)

  • You are comfortable influencing and championing product decisions

  • You are a clear thinker, who moves quickly and is comfortable with failing often
