We opened our flagship location in Manhattan's West Village in 2019 and have quickly expanded across the East Coast. Small Door now operates in New York City, Boston, Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia with continued expansion plans in 2026.

Small Door is searching for a Junior Accountant to join our Finance/Accounting team. You will work closely with our Experienced Accountant to support accurate and timely recording, reconciliation, analysis, and reporting, while ensuring compliance with accounting principles and company policies. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working autonomously, takes initiative, and is eager to grow their technical accounting expertise across a range of areas including vendor management, accounts payable, inventory cost of goods sold, and fixed assets. This is a remote position based in Montreal.

What You'll Do

  • Assist the Experienced accountant and Controller in preparing month-end financial statements

  • Apply and maintain knowledge of accounting for inventory accounting (ASC 330), cost of goods sold, and fixed assets

  • Provide day-to-day support for billing processes

  • Prepare and process vendor payments

  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve invoice discrepancies

  • Maintain accurate vendor master data, including banking and tax info.

  • Respond to vendor inquiries and build positive supplier relationship

  • Assist with detailed analysis of accounts, identifying trends, discrepancies, and areas for improvement

  • Support external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations, supporting schedules and reconciliations

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate recording and allocation of expenses

  • Leverage AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) to improve efficiency and accuracy in accounting workflows

  • Stay current with accounting standards, regulations, and best practices



Who You Are

  • 1-2 years of accounting experience

  • Experience with accounts payable, vendor management, inventory and fixed assets

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and regulations (U.S. GAAP preferred)

  • Strong Excel proficiency is mandatory

  • Familiarity with AI tools such as Claude/Anthropic and ChatGPT for workflow efficiency

  • Experience using payment tools (Bill.com, Coupa)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and identify trends

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams

  • Strong organizational skills and comfort working independently in a remote, fast-paced environment

  • Experience supporting a multi-location and/or multi-entity business
