Description of Work

This position is responsible for the enforcement and administration of the utility scale solar decommissioning program through assisting with the review of registrations, reports, database management, conducting field inspections, and providing technical assistance. This position is also responsible for field sampling, specifically assisting Division programs with the collection of groundwater from private wells.

Key Responsibilities:

• Reviews utility scale solar facility registration information and decommissioning plans for completeness and accuracy.

• Performs groundwater sampling from private drinking wells.

• Assists with permitted facility and complaint inspections for compliance with Federal and State laws.

• Communication and technical assistance to the regulated community, the public, and local governments.

Recruitment Range: $47,703 - $63,147

The Division of Waste Management is responsible for protecting the public health and environment through assuring that solid and hazardous waste and underground storage tanks are managed properly, and existing contamination is cleaned up across the State of North Carolina. This is accomplished through the Hazardous Waste, Solid Waste, Superfund and Underground Storage Tank Sections, and the Brownfields Redevelopment Section. This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. Bachelor's degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
