Senior PLC & HMI Programmer

Position Type: Full-Time/Part-Time

Lead automation projects. Mentor teams. Deliver smart solutions.

Are you an experienced PLC and SCADA professional ready to take your career to the next level? We are seeking a Senior PLC & HMI Programmer to lead complex automation projects, provide technical guidance, and ensure our control systems operate efficiently and reliably.

This role is ideal for someone with deep technical expertise, strong leadership abilities, and a passion for water and wastewater process automation. You’ll work on challenging projects, support field operations, and mentor a team of programmers.



What You’ll Do

As a Senior PLC & HMI Programmer, you’ll be a technical leader and key contributor in designing, programming, and troubleshooting SCADA and PLC systems.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Lead programming of PLC logic, HMI/SCADA applications, and control systems for complex projects

  • Provide expert-level technical support for SCADA networks, PLC hardware/software, and industrial communication systems

  • Perform software quality checks and ensure programming standards are met

  • Assist with on-site commissioning, troubleshooting, and system startups

  • Mentor and train Level I–III programmers and apprentices on new technologies, tools, and best practices

  • Develop and maintain programming standards, libraries, and documentation

  • Oversee SCADA network administration, database management, and data communication systems

  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, clients, and field technicians to meet project requirements and schedules

  • Support cybersecurity practices for industrial control systems

  • Participate in budget planning, employee development, and performance management for your team

  • Provide on-call support as needed for critical operational systems

Additional Technologies:

  • Industrial control panel design, instrumentation, and electro-mechanical devices



What We’re Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of PLC/SCADA programming experience in water/wastewater or industrial processes

  • 3+ years of water/wastewater process programming experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field

  • Expert knowledge of PLC and SCADA programming software

  • Familiarity with IEC 61131-3 standard programming languages (ladder logic, structured text, VB scripting)

  • Strong understanding of industrial control systems cybersecurity

  • Knowledge of industrial radio configuration and troubleshooting (900 MHz radios a plus)

  • Proven ability to perform on-site troubleshooting and system commissioning

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and mentoring skills

  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, control narratives, and P&ID drawings

  • Electrical certification highly desirable
