Senior Financial Analyst – Interim / Contract

Contract Duration: Immediate Start – December 31, 2026

Compensation: $38–$42/hour, depending on experience

Employment Type: Temporary / Contract

Industry: Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG)

Location: [Location / Hybrid]

Reports To: [Controller / Finance Manager / Director of Finance]

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Senior Financial Analyst for a temporary contract position through December 31, 2026.

The role will support financial reporting, analysis, reconciliations, margin analysis, invoicing, accounts receivable follow-up and process improvement within a growing CPG environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with Finance and Operations to understand financial results, investigate variances and discrepancies, follow up on outstanding issues, and improve financial processes and reporting.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is comfortable working independently, analyzing financial information in detail, and working cross-functionally to resolve issues.

Key Responsibilities

*- Financial Reporting & Analysis

Review monthly P&L results and investigate significant variances.

Perform budget vs. actual and period-over-period variance analysis.

Analyze expenses in detail to identify trends, anomalies and opportunities.

Perform margin analysis and investigate changes in gross profitability.

Prepare management and client-facing P&L reporting.

Provide clear commentary and explanations around financial results.

Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting and P&L presentation.

*- Balance Sheet & Month-End Support

Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations.

Investigate and resolve reconciling items and unusual balances.

Support month-end close activities.

Analyze balance sheet accounts and identify issues requiring follow-up.

Work with internal teams to obtain information and resolve outstanding items.

*- Revenue, Invoicing & Accounts Receivable

Support and review customer invoicing.

Follow up on outstanding AR balances and aging items.

Work with Operations and other stakeholders to resolve billing issues.

Analyze revenue-related discrepancies.

Support reconciliation and analysis of carrier commission revenue and other relevant revenue streams.

Identify opportunities to improve invoicing and revenue processes.

*- Inventory & Operational Finance

Support financial review and reconciliation of inventory-related balances.

Investigate material discrepancies or unusual inventory activity.

Work with Operations to understand and resolve inventory-related financial issues.

Identify the financial impact of operational issues affecting inventory, costs or margins.

Deep inventory accounting specialization is not required. However, candidates should be comfortable working with inventory-related financial information and investigating issues within a CPG environment.

*- Process Improvement & SOPs

Identify inefficiencies and recurring issues within finance processes.

Develop and maintain SOPs and process documentation.

Recommend improvements to reporting, reconciliation, invoicing and other finance processes.

Strengthen processes and controls where appropriate.

Work with business stakeholders to implement practical improvements.

Identify opportunities to improve the use of ERP and financial data.

*- Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with Operations, Sales, Supply Chain, AR/AP and other teams to resolve financial and operational issues.

Follow issues through from identification to resolution.

Translate operational issues into financial implications.

Communicate financial findings clearly to both Finance and non-Finance stakeholders.

Maintain strong follow-through on outstanding items and action plans.

-- Required Qualifications

5+ years of relevant finance or accounting experience, ideally within CPG, distribution, manufacturing, retail or a similar environment.

Strong understanding of P&L and balance sheet fundamentals.

Demonstrated experience with:

- Financial reporting

- Variance analysis

- Expense analysis

- Margin analysis

- Balance sheet reconciliations

- Invoicing

- Accounts receivable

- Month-end activities

Strong Excel skills and ability to analyze financial data efficiently.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to investigate discrepancies and determine underlying causes.

Strong communication, organization and follow-through skills.

Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work effectively with Operations and other non-finance stakeholders.

Experience identifying and implementing process improvements and/or creating SOPs.

-- Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

CPG, FMCG, distribution or other inventory-related industry experience.

Experience with margin and profitability analysis.

Experience with commission and revenue analysis.

Experience with Power Query and/or Power BI.

CPA or equivalent accounting designation is an asset, but not required.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is a strong, hands-on finance professional, not simply someone who prepares reports.

You should be comfortable looking at a P&L or balance sheet and asking:

«"Why is this happening?"»

You should then be able to investigate the underlying information, speak with the relevant operational teams, identify the root cause and follow through until the issue is resolved.

The successful candidate will bring a combination of:

Strong accounting fundamentals

Financial analysis capability

Commercial awareness

Excellent attention to detail

Strong Excel and data-analysis skills

Problem-solving ability

Cross-functional communication

Process-improvement mindset

Ability to work independently

Strong ownership and follow-through
