Description
With more than 8 billion downloads, CrazyLabs is a leading publisher of casual and hybrid-casual games.
We have proven that real success comes from staying ahead with the latest technology, having fun with what we do, and building excellent teams. That’s where you come in!
We’re looking for a Game Level Designer to join our New Games team and create levels and player journeys for the next generation of hybrid-casual mobile games.
This role is for someone who understands that great level design is much more than placing game elements. It’s about creating the right challenge at the right moment, teaching players without over-explaining, building satisfying difficulty curves, and constantly finding new ways to keep gameplay fresh.
If you are:
- A Level Designer who loves building, playing, analyzing, and improving levels
- Passionate about casual, hybrid-casual, and puzzle games
- Obsessed with pacing, difficulty, progression, and player experience
- Able to understand why a level is fun, frustrating, too easy, or too difficult
- Comfortable creating many levels, testing them, analyzing their performance, and iterating quickly
- Curious about player behavior and motivated by both creativity and data
- Excited about using AI and new tools to improve and accelerate level creation
Then you might be a great match for CrazyLabs.
As a Game Level Designer, you will:
- Design, build, implement, test, and iterate engaging levels for new hybrid-casual mobile games.
- Define level structure, sequencing, pacing, difficulty curves, and progression to create compelling player journeys.
- Create levels that introduce mechanics clearly and gradually develop them into deeper and more challenging experiences.
- Balance challenge, variety, accessibility, and satisfaction across the player journey.
- Work directly with internal level editors, Unity, spreadsheets, and other design tools to create and maintain game content.
- Analyze level performance using KPIs such as completion rates, fail rates, retries, churn points, session behavior, and player progression.
- Identify problematic levels and use data, playtests, and player behavior to improve them.
- Collaborate closely with Game Designers, Product Owners, developers, artists, and Data Analysts throughout prototype development and testing.
- Contribute ideas for new mechanics, obstacles, level elements, boosters, challenges, and gameplay variations.
- Help establish scalable level-design principles, difficulty frameworks, and content pipelines for new games.
- Research competing games and market trends to understand successful level-design patterns and identify new opportunities.
- Create and maintain clear level-design documentation, layouts, balancing sheets, and progression plans.
- Use AI tools to support level ideation, variation generation, balancing, testing, and analysis.
Requirements
The Game Level Designer role requires:
- 3+ years experience in game design or level design, preferably for mobile casual, hybrid-casual, puzzle, or F2P games.
- Strong hands-on level-design experience and the ability to create engaging levels at scale.
- Strong understanding of level-design fundamentals, including pacing, difficulty progression, onboarding, mechanic introduction, challenge, variety, and player progression.
- Experience balancing and tuning levels based on playtests, player behavior, and performance data.
- Ability to understand level KPIs and translate data into concrete design improvements.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong player empathy and an understanding of how different player segments experience difficulty and progression.
- Ability to work efficiently with level editors, spreadsheets, game engines, or similar content-creation tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong knowledge of casual and hybrid-casual mobile games and current market trends.
- Curiosity and willingness to experiment with AI tools and emerging technologies as part of the level-design process.
Advantage
- 3+ years of experience specifically designing levels for casual, hybrid-casual, or puzzle games.
- Experience designing levels for successful mobile F2P titles.
- Experience building level progression for games from prototype or soft launch onward.
- Experience with puzzle mechanics and large-scale level pipelines.
- Proficiency in Unity 3D.
- Experience creating or working with custom level editors.
- Experience using analytics to optimize difficulty curves and level performance.
- Experience using AI tools for level generation, balancing, testing, or analysis.
