Job description

 

What You Can Expect

As our Preconstruction Manager, you will lead the critical work that prepares ENGIE's solar and solar-plus-storage projects for construction. You will guide estimating, procurement, contracting, budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and execution-readiness activities while partnering with Project Development, Engineering, Procurement, Finance, Legal, and Project Delivery. You will align project scope, commercial expectations, and execution plans to support annual delivery goals and a successful handoff into construction. Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Delivery, you will also lead and develop a team of estimators, engineers, and project professionals. 

  • Lead preconstruction planning for rooftop and ground-mounted solar and energy storage projects, including EPC budgets, Basis of Estimate development, value engineering, forecasting, and execution-readiness milestones. 
  • Build, manage, and mentor a team of estimators, engineers, project managers, and support staff while promoting safety, quality, accountability, and operational excellence. 
  • Support EPC, supplier, and subcontract agreement development and negotiations, maintaining alignment among estimates, budgets, contracts, procurement strategies, and execution plans. 
  • Partner with sales and development teams on site diligence and customer engagements, communicating project options, pricing, schedules, lead times, and execution strategies. 
  • Develop project risk registers and preconstruction schedules, assess scope, design, procurement, commercial, and critical-path risks, and implement mitigation strategies that support successful project delivery.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to the Chicago, IL office on a quarterly basis for team meetings, planning sessions, and other business-related activities.

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in project development, management, engineering, construction, estimating, preconstruction, or renewable energy.
  • Experience with solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and EPC project delivery.
  • Working knowledge of NEC requirements, AC/DC electrical systems, estimating, contract administration, and commercial risk management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project and Power BI;
  • Experience with project controls ERP systems, Procore, and CRM tools such as Salesforce.
  • Willingness to learn and apply prevailing wage, apprenticeship, domestic content, FEOC, safety, constructability, and QA/QC requirements.
  • Leadership, communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, organizational, and time management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.

 

Additional Details

  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy
  • Must be available to travel domestically up to 25% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies

 

Compensation

Salary Range: $129,030 – $197,846 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

 

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
