If you’re energized by ambitious work, creative collaboration, and helping to build something great, you’ll want to keep reading.

🚀 About the Role: Senior Software Engineer

We’re growing — and we’re hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join our Connected Supplier team! In this role, you’ll help us build out our Connected+ Supplier integrations, streamline the purchase order to invoice flow, and iterate on features that power our supplier partnerships. You’ll collaborate closely with teammates across Product, Design, and Engineering, contribute to a high-trust environment, and play a direct role in shaping the future of the industry.

💡 About You

You’re not just looking for a job — you’re looking for a place to do your best work. You bring:

  • A community mindset — You enjoy collaborating with classmates and teammates, and you’re eager to learn from people with more experience. You ask questions, share what you’re learning, and contribute to a positive team environment. (Community First)

  • Curiosity and Initiative — You don’t need to have all the answers, but you’re excited to dive in, experiment, and figure things out. You take ownership of your tasks, ask for help when you need it, and keep making progress. (Fast Forward)

  • A learning mindset — You’re curious about how technology works in the real world, and you’re excited to think beyond the classroom. You like to explore new ideas, try different approaches, and imagine what’s possible. (Ten Steps Ahead)

  • Joy in learning and building — You take pride in your projects, whether it’s a school assignment, a side project, or your first piece of production code. You care about doing good work, bring a sense of humour to challenges, and celebrate the wins — big and small. (Delightful Work)

🛠️ What You’ll Do

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Independently scope, plan, and implement well-defined features and components within the Connected Supplier domain.

  • Contribute to system design discussions with a focus on performance, maintainability, and scalability considerations.

  • Break down work into clear milestones and modules, collaborating with Product Managers and Engineering Managers to align on timelines and deliverables.

  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code while modeling high-quality software development practices for the team.

  • Own engineering outcomes for domain projects and co-own larger cross-functional initiatives in partnership with Product, Design, and Engineering.

  • Identify technical risks early in the development lifecycle and propose practical mitigation strategies.

  • Proactively spot inefficiencies in systems or processes and implement solutions to improve how the team builds and maintains software.

  • Translate business goals and customer feedback into thoughtful technical implementation details.

  • Communicate proactively about status, risks, and blockers across teams and stakeholders.

  • Support and mentor fellow engineers through constructive feedback, pairing, and collaborative guidance.

  • Contribute to shared team responsibilities, including code reviews, documentation, technical debt management, and on-call rotations.

🔍 What You Bring

Some of the qualities that help you thrive in this role:

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, ideally within a SaaS or product-driven environment.

  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, system design, relational databases, and API development.

  • Experience with agile workflows, version control, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools like Datadog.

  • Proven track record of independently delivering complex features and collaborating effectively across teams with a balance of technical quality and practical tradeoffs.

  • Demonstrated experience mentoring peers and fostering an inclusive, collaborative engineering culture.

  • Comfort working independently and asynchronously, while also prioritizing collaboration and connection with people.

  • Experience (or excitement for) working with AI.

  • Bonus: Familiarity with the promotional products industry, supply chain workflows, or e-commerce integrations.

🌎 Location

This role is open to candidates eligible to work in Canada, with the exception of Quebec (we’re not set up to operate there yet — désolé!).

We’re remote-first, but if you’re based in Toronto, even better. That’s where we were founded and where we maintain our HQ today!

🌱 A Bit More About Us and our Culture

commonsku supports hundreds of promotional products distributors and suppliers with technology that drive efficiency, growth, and connection. Our skummunity (commonsku + community = skummunity, get it?) is powered by events, education, and shared knowledge and is core to who we are.

We’ve grown by being “for promo by promo” and now, we’re scaling our impact to elevating an entire industry. We’d love your help doing it.

At commonsku, you won’t just be a part of a company, you’ll be part of a community.

  • We host team demos where everyone gets to share what they’re building.

  • We celebrate wins together, big and small (like your first feature going live!).

  • You’ll be invited to social hangouts, learning sessions, and our twice-yearly company summit, when they align with your co-op term.

🤖 A Note About AI

We use AI every day at commonsku to be faster and better. If you use AI tools to help you draft your resume or cover letter, that’s totally fine — just make sure what you submit reflects you. We want to hear your authentic voice, not ChatGPT’s.
