Job description

The Podcast Mission develops strategies and builds products that serve creators and listeners. As the #1 podcast platform in the world, we own the tools and features that give creators a great experience when producing, distributing, and monetizing their content while growing and engaging with their audience.

Wheelhouse is a creator experience team within the Podcast Mission. Creators and publishers rely on us to distribute and manage their content across Spotify and beyond. We build the surfaces they interact with every day and the backend services and APIs that power them, with a focus on making the entire publishing and content management experiences rock solid, fast, and responsive at scale.

We are looking for an Engineer II to help build and improve the tools creators use to manage and share their content. You'll primarily focus on building scalable backend services and APIs, with opportunities to contribute to the frontend. You'll collaborate closely with product and design to deliver experiences that serve creators worldwide.

What You'll Do
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services that power episode and podcast management workflows
  • Contribute to user-facing surfaces and frontend experiences using React and TypeScript
  • Be an active part of creating and evolving APIs and services that connect user experiences with scalable internal infrastructure
  • Drive improvements to system performance and developer experience across the stack
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers across multiple teams to align on requirements and deliver integrated experiences
  • Contribute to technical discussions, RFCs, and help shape platform decisions
  • Support engineers around you and help maintain a high bar for code quality and operational practices
  • Contribute to a culture of experimentation, ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning

  • Who You Are
  • You have experience building and operating production backend systems using Java, Ruby on Rails, or similar languages and frameworks
  • You have some experience with React and TypeScript, or are eager to develop your frontend skills
  • You are familiar with distributed systems concepts including asynchronous processing, service-to-service APIs, storage design, and observability
  • You care deeply about the user experience for creators, not just the technical implementation
  • You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and can communicate your ideas clearly across technical and non-technical audiences
  • You have a growth mindset, are curious, and are not afraid to be experimental
  • You care about agile software development and a culture of constant learning and improvement
  • You have familiarity with or interest in podcast ecosystems and creator tooling

  • Where You'll Be
  • We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! For this role, you can be within the North Americas region as long as we have a work location.
  • This team operates within the Eastern Standard time zone for collaboration.
  • The United States base range for this position is $ 132,948 - $ 189,927 USD, plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six-month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, paid flexible holidays, and paid sick leave. These ranges may be modified in the future.
