This position is designated as work-from-home.

About the Role:

Synergy is seeking a Security Engineer to support a high visibility rapid prototyping project for our USCG customer. In this role, the candidate will serve as a support liaison between a joint contractor/Government team and security control assessors (SCA).  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the Security Control Assessor (SCA) in independently assessing the implementation and effectiveness of security controls
  • Review key RMF documentation (e.g., System Security Plan (SSP), Security Assessment Plan (SAP), Security Assessment Report (SAR))
  • Perform hands-on testing and review ISSO self-assessment responses.
  • Validate that security controls are functioning and risks are managed appropriately.
  • Document assessment findings, including weaknesses or deficiencies, in the SAR.
  • Communicate assessment results and provide feedback to the SCA and ISSO.
  • Recommend corrective actions for identified deficiencies in RMF packages provided by ISSO.
  • Support risk management and system authorization processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • In depth knowledge of all RMF phases and NIST 800-53 controls.
  • Network-related security control assessment planning and execution.
  • Network-related RMF documentation review and validation (SSP, SAP, SAR).
  • Technical evaluation and hands-on testing of security controls.
  • Network-related Vulnerability management reviews.
  • Communication and collaboration with stakeholders (SCA, ISSO).
  • Documentation of findings and recommendations.
  • Support for risk management and authorization activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Significant networking background

Education Requirements:

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field. 

Citizenship & Clearance Requirements:

  • Required: US citizen with Public Trust.

Target Salary Range

Compensation for roles at Synergy is determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the requirements of the role; level of experience; education and certifications; the individual’s combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities; as well as alignment with market data, federal and state laws, and other business and contract considerations. The estimated pay range for this position is: $119,505.00 – $170,721.00. The disclosed range has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case and represent just one component of Synergy’s total compensation package for employees.
