The role  

We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join a highly collaborative team focused on building and scaling innovative machine learning and AI-powered products. This role will work at the intersection of Data Science, Machine Learning, and Engineering to drive experimentation, optimize customer experiences, and develop next-generation AI solutions. 

The ideal candidate combines a strong quantitative foundation with deep expertise in machine learning, experimentation, and modern AI tooling. This individual will be comfortable operating in emerging product areas with limited direction, helping define both the technical approach and long-term business value. 

Role responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of machine learning solutions that drive business impact. 
  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Data teams to identify opportunities and recommend data-driven solutions. 
  • Design and analyze experiments, including A/B tests, to evaluate product enhancements and business initiatives. 
  • Develop quantitative frameworks to assess new customer experiences and emerging product opportunities. 
  • Build predictive and optimization models that improve customer outcomes and business performance. 
  • Contribute to initiatives involving customer personalization, recommendation systems, and behavioral modeling. 
  • Drive innovation in computer vision, generative AI, and image-generation technologies. 
  • Improve and expand AI-powered visual experiences, identifying new use cases across the business. 
  • Evaluate, implement, and optimize state-of-the-art machine learning techniques and open-source AI frameworks. 
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to productionize models and create scalable AI systems. 
  • Operate independently on ambiguous problems while helping define technical strategy and best practices. 

 

Must have qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or another quantitative discipline. 
  • 5+ years of experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field. 
  • Deep expertise in machine learning, including model development, evaluation, and deployment. 
  • Strong programming skills in Python and experience building production-grade data science solutions. 
  • Experience designing and analyzing experiments, including A/B testing methodologies. 
  • Strong statistical modeling and hypothesis-testing skills. 
  • Experience partnering with software engineers to deploy and scale machine learning systems. 
  • Ability to independently drive projects from problem definition through implementation. 
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to translate complex findings into business recommendations.

  • Experience working in fast-paced environments where experimentation and iteration are critical to success. 
  • Familiarity with recommendation systems, personalization, or customer lifecycle optimization.

The benefits  

This is a full time position based in Canada. The offered salary range is $90,000-140,000 CAD annually, depending on experience and location. 

Valtech offers a comprehensive benefits package effective after three months of continuous service:

  • A comprehensive insurance plan, where you can choose the module that best suits your needs—Gold, Silver, or Bronze. The employer may contribute up to 80% of your coverage depending on the selected module. This plan includes short- and long-term disability coverage.
  • Dialogue via Sun Life provides virtual healthcare services, allowing you to consult with a healthcare professional for emergencies, prescription renewals, and more. You also have access to the Employee and Family Assistance Program, as well as a complete mental health support program.
  • A $500 Personal Spending Account, which can be used for healthcare reimbursements, gym memberships, public transit passes, office supplies, or contributions to your RRSP through Valtech.
  • A retirement plan where Valtech will match 100% of your RRSP contributions through a Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), up to a maximum of 4%. You can start contributing to your RRSP immediately, and to the DPSP after 3 months. The vesting of the DPSP will be after a 24 months of service. 
  • Access to a flexible vacation under Valtech's policy to support your work-life balance, with 5 days available during your probation period and a prorated amount calculated for the remainder of the year.
  • Personal Technology Reimbursement – $30/month for every employee-offered on day 1. 
  • We close during the winter holidays and offer flexible scheduling throughout the year, so you can enjoy those sunny Friday afternoons—provided your weekly hours are completed.
