About the Company

Our client is a U.S.-based general contractor specializing in public and private education construction projects. They operate with a lean, focused team and are looking for a dedicated Estimator who can take ownership of estimating and pre-construction responsibilities and help increase the team’s operational capacity.

This is an opportunity for an experienced construction professional who is comfortable working independently, managing multiple projects, and supporting the pre-construction process from initial drawings through bid preparation and coordination.

About the Role

We are looking for a Mid-Level Estimator with approximately 3–6+ years of hands-on estimating experience on U.S. construction projects.

The ideal candidate will have strong construction drawing and specification reading skills, experience performing detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates, and the ability to support broader pre-construction activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from construction drawings and specifications.

  • Prepare accurate budgets and cost estimates for competitive bids.

  • Prepare bid documentation and respond to RFQs.

  • Review subcontractor submittals against project drawings and specifications.

  • Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors during the pre-construction process.

  • Support pre-construction communications, documentation, and project logistics.

  • Manage multiple estimating and pre-construction tasks simultaneously.

  • Review plans, specifications, and project requirements to identify scope, quantities, and potential issues.

  • Maintain organized estimating and project documentation.

  • Work within construction software and digital workflows to support estimating and project coordination.

  • Proactively identify discrepancies, missing information, and potential estimating or pre-construction issues.

Requirements

  • 3–10+ years of construction estimating experience.

  • Proven experience estimating U.S. construction projects.

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred; equivalent hands-on estimating experience will also be considered.

  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

  • Experience with construction estimating software and digital construction workflows.

  • Familiarity with Bluebeam.

  • Familiarity with Autodesk Build and AI-assisted estimating tools such as Toggle, or the ability to learn new software quickly.

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects or project phases.

  • Comfortable working full-time and being dedicated to a single client.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working for or alongside a U.S. general contractor.

  • Experience with public or private education construction projects.

  • Experience handling both estimating and pre-construction coordination.

  • Experience reviewing subcontractor submittals and project documentation.

  • Familiarity with RFQs, bid packages, subcontractor coordination, and pre-construction workflows.

  • Civil engineering or construction-related educational background.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is more than someone who can perform takeoffs. We are looking for someone who can own the estimating and pre-construction process, solve problems proactively, and help reduce operational workload for a lean construction team.

You should be comfortable taking initiative, identifying what needs to be done, and keeping projects moving without requiring constant supervision.

Non-Negotiables

  • Fluent English, both written and verbal.

  • Proven estimating experience with U.S. construction projects.

  • Full-time availability and dedication to one client.

  • Experience with standard construction estimating and project management workflows.

  • Willingness to work U.S. Central Time hours.

  • Comfortable with a month-to-month employment structure and two-week notice flexibility.
