Job description

Description

We're glad you found us.

Athena Care has been offering high quality, accessible mental health care for over twenty years. If there's one thing we've learned, it's that great care starts with great clinicians who actually feel supported - and every team member plays a role in the care for our patients. We're an insurance-based practice growing across Tennessee, and we're looking for a VIE Specialist to support our insurance verification efforts for our patients.

We offer psychological testing, IOP/PHP, Spravato/IM Ketamine, TMS, psychotherapy, group therapy, and general psychiatryβ€” often all under one roof. It's a lot β€” and it means our patients receive genuinely comprehensive care, and you get to contribute to our mission of increasing access to quality mental health services.

Who we're looking for

Someone who has  extensive experience verifying complex behavioral health benefits, possesses a strong understanding of commercial and government insurance plans, and thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume remote work environment. This position requires exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.

What it's like to work here

We've worked hard to combine rigor and high-quality care with a fun and friendly work culture. At Athena Care we strive to offer the ideal balance of a small group practice feel on the ground with strong business expertise and technology behind the scenes. You contribute to the care of our patients while having an amazing, nurturing work team supporting you!

Your day-to-day role

  • Collect, review, and validate all patient insurance information necessary to complete accurate eligibility and benefits verification.
  • Identify behavioral health carve-outs and determine the appropriate payer responsible for mental health benefits.
  • Review and interpret Coordination of Benefits (COB) information to determine primary and secondary payer responsibility.
  • Document eligibility and benefit information accurately within the electronic health record and other designated systems.
  • Utilize payer websites, provider portals, Availity, and telephone verification to obtain accurate benefit information.
  • Communicate eligibility findings, authorization requirements, and financial responsibility to appropriate internal departments.
  • Identify discrepancies in insurance information and work proactively to resolve issues.
  • Maintain productivity and quality standards while managing a high-volume workload.
  • Stay current on payer policy updates, insurance regulations, and behavioral health reimbursement requirements.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations and organizational policies.
