About the company

The Langston Co. logo

The Langston Co.

We exist to discover truths about human behavior through inspired curiosity. The Langston Co. was founded after the worlds of a demographer and economist collided inside the walls of a fast-growing technology company. Faced with constant demand for high-quality information about users, employees, and competitors, this partnership flourished as the pair brought the latest in rigorous research approaches into the heart of the company’s strategic decision-making. Over time, we honed our understanding of how to implement research in a way that is practical and impactful in a world that respects swift results above all else. We saw the power of rigorous research adapted for the speed and complexity of the private sector. We experimented with applying this same level of rigor in other industries, and found the same extraordinary results. From there, the Langston Co. was born. Our team has since grown into a multinational group of consultants and strategic advisors with experience in more than 20 industries, from CPG to healthcare, aviation to retail, and entertainment to education. We help organizations understand what makes people tick. What makes them buy. What engages and activates them. What drives their decision making patterns. And how to serve their needs. We discover these truths by combining economic, demographic, and consumer behavior research with a practical understanding of how decisions get made in a business.

Job description

About Langston

The Langston Co. is a global insights & strategy firm with a unique approach to consumer research. We call our research method “modular research” — built to make us more effective as researchers and strategists while giving our clients more power and knowledge about the entire field of consumer insights. We work with mid-market to Fortune 500 brands across categories, from alcohol brands to activewear, travel to tech, helping them understand consumers and act with confidence. Every person on our team plays a role in the development, discovery, and refinement of this system. Our mission is to make consumer research more approachable and more powerful for brands around the world.

Where We Are

Since our founding, Langston has grown meaningfully through a combination of a distinctive research methodology and hands-on, founder-led selling and consulting earning the trust of anchor clients across industries from CPG to tech. The market has shown clear and consistent receptivity to our approach, and we’ve built a strong foundation of revenue, relationships, and results. We’re now at an inflection point, ready to scale go-to-market beyond what our founders can do alone. This next chapter is about amplifying what’s working, experimenting with new strategies, and operationalizing growth across new and existing clients.

About The Role

We are looking for someone who is passionate about consumer behavior, deeply curious, skilled in quantitative research methods, and genuinely energized by building lasting relationships with clients. The best people in this role don't just answer research questions—they become trusted strategic partners who understand their clients, their businesses, and what success looks like for them.

The Director of Insights & Strategy role stretches across five areas:

Advanced Statistical Analysis & Research Execution

A primary function of your role will be to ensure the integrity of each project. You’ll be able to do this by understanding sampling dynamics, evaluating patterns within data, and guiding the analysis team on how to best approach data cuts and exploratory analysis. You’ll run regressions, variable reduction techniques (e.g., Factor Analysis), and other sophisticated analyses on a regular basis.

You’ll also have an intuition for scoping, designing, and building robust quantitative and qualitative research that tightly aligns with the needs of our clients.

Project Management

Running a research project from start to finish requires many moving parts, and as Director of Insights & Strategy, you’ll oversee and own the entire process. You’ll work with vendors, partners, and Langston colleagues to ensure every part is organized and executed effectively.

Client Management

You'll become a trusted advisor to your clients by developing a deep understanding of their business, priorities, stakeholders, and long-term goals. Through proactive communication, thoughtful guidance, and genuine curiosity, you'll build relationships that extend well beyond individual projects, helping clients feel understood, supported, and confident in every interaction.

Strategy & Insights Communication

As research is coming together, you’ll think holistically about what it means and how insights can be leveraged to drive real business decisions and outcomes. This will require you to constantly toggle between “the trees” and “the forest”, balancing the realities of a client’s business with the potential impact of insights.

Equally important is how you communicate these insights, both on paper and in person. Langston leverages several mediums for building & communicating insights (e.g., PowerPoint, White Papers, and even video and audio.)

People Management

You’ll lead a team of Consumer Insights Analysts and/or Managers. In addition to setting them up for success in their roles and ensuring their skills/strengths are being leveraged, you’ll contribute to their professional development as consumer insights professionals and business strategists.

This role requires infrequent travel to client locations and to team offsites in the future.

Your Experience & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled consumer insights researcher, project manager, and business strategist who meets the following experiences & qualifications:

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience working in a quantitative consumer insights role, executing a wide variety of survey-based research (e.g., brand tracking, customer journey mapping, conjoint analysis, segmentation, pricing, etc.)
  • 3+ years of experience managing client relationships and communications as the primary point of contact and owning consumer insights & business strategy projects from start to finish
  • 3+ years of experience managing teams of analysts and strategists

Strategic ability

  • Ability to distill high-level strategic questions and transform them into research objectives and approach
  • Ability to analyze raw data and extract novel insights
  • Ability to connect insights to real business outcomes and strategy

Technical skills

  • Mastery of Excel and PowerPoint is required. Please do not apply for this role if you do not meet these two requirements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of STATA, R, or other statistical package is preferred
  • Presentation design expertise is preferred

Communication and relationships

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, with the ability to build trust across a wide variety of personalities and organizational levels
  • Genuine desire to get to know people. Building authentic relationships, earning trust, and helping others succeed is just as rewarding to you as solving a difficult analytical problem

Work style

  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and obsession with meeting deadlines
  • Unending appetite to learn new techniques, approaches, technologies and research methodologies to deliver higher quality and more efficient work
