Job description

About Positively Partners

Positively Partners delivers integrated, people-centered consulting services to social impact organizations. Our services include recruitment, HR outsourcing, and consulting on people practices related to compensation, employee engagement, and inclusion.

Founded by nonprofit leaders in 2016, we help social sector organizations access high-quality, inclusion-focused HR services essential to achieving their missions. We’re a team of learners, HR professionals, and equity practitioners committed to helping employees thrive in support of their organization’s mission. Our home bases are in Boston, MA and Washington, DC, with a remote team across the United States, allowing us to deliver services through a mix of in-person and virtual channels.

The Opportunity

At Positively Partners, we believe organizations achieve greater impact when their leadership, people, and organizational systems work together intentionally.

As a Principal Consultant, Organizational Effectiveness, you will serve as a trusted advisor to nonprofit executives, partnering with leaders to solve complex organizational challenges and build stronger, healthier workplaces. You’ll lead consulting engagements spanning organizational effectiveness, leadership development, organizational design, employee engagement, performance enablement, workforce planning, change management, and HR strategy.

Unlike many consulting firms, our work doesn’t end when recommendations are delivered. We partner with organizations to implement solutions, build capability, and help leaders and employees adopt new ways of working that create lasting results. We measure success not only by the quality of our recommendations, but by the outcomes our clients achieve.

This role sits within CARE, Positively Partners' consulting practice, where we partner with organizations to strengthen culture, leadership, talent, and organizational effectiveness through project-based consulting engagements. As Positively Partners has grown, CARE has become increasingly integrated with PositivelyHR, bringing specialized consulting expertise into our outsourced HR partnerships while continuing to serve organizations through standalone consulting engagements. As a Principal Consultant, you will lead a portfolio of consulting engagements from discovery through implementation, serving as the primary relationship owner for CARE consulting projects. Your portfolio will include both specialized consulting engagements delivered in partnership with PositivelyHR clients and standalone consulting engagements with new and existing organizations, requiring close collaboration across service lines to deliver integrated, high-impact solutions that reflect the full breadth of our expertise.

Many consulting engagements occur alongside broader partnerships delivered through PositivelyHR, our subscription-based outsourced HR service providing embedded HR leadership, systems, compliance, payroll administration, and day-to-day people support. In these cases, you will partner closely with the PositivelyHR relationship leader to ensure consulting engagements complement and strengthen the client's broader strategic partnership with Positively Partners.

Over the past decade, Positively Partners has developed evidence-based methodologies grounded in Positive Organizational Scholarship, Positive Psychology, and our experience partnering with hundreds of nonprofit organizations. Consultants learn and apply these proven approaches while continually contributing ideas that strengthen and evolve our practice.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, CARE, this role serves as one of Positively Partners’ senior consulting leaders. Success is measured by the strength of your client relationships, achievement of annual consulting revenue goals, client satisfaction and repeat business, and the measurable organizational impact of the solutions you implement.

What You’ll Do

Lead Client Partnerships

  • Lead a portfolio of consulting engagements from discovery through implementation.

  • Serve as the primary relationship owner for CARE consulting engagements while collaborating with colleagues who may own the client’s broader Positively Partners relationship.

  • Build enduring relationships with executive leaders and boards.

  • Manage engagements to scope, budget, timeline, and quality expectations.

  • Deliver exceptional client experiences that generate measurable outcomes, high satisfaction, repeat business, and expansion opportunities.

  • Achieve annual consulting revenue goals through thoughtful relationship management and business development.

Diagnose Organizational Challenges and Deliver Lasting Solutions

  • Lead organizational assessments and organizational design engagements.

  • Advise executive teams on organizational effectiveness, HR strategy, workforce planning, leadership effectiveness, and organizational performance.

  • Synthesize interviews, focus groups, workforce metrics, engagement surveys, organizational structures, and business data to distinguish root causes from symptoms.

  • Design practical, evidence-based interventions and partner with clients through implementation to achieve sustainable outcomes.

Facilitate Leadership and Organizational Change

  • Facilitate executive retreats, strategic planning sessions, leadership meetings, and leadership development experiences.

  • Support organizations through restructuring, growth, succession, and transformation.

  • Build alignment across diverse stakeholders.

Strengthen Our Documentation & Practice Standards

  • Apply and continually strengthen Positively Partners’ consulting methodologies.

  • Develop repeatable playbooks, tools, and implementation resources.

  • Contribute to proposals, thought leadership, networking, and business development.

Collaborate Across Positively Partners

  • Partner across CARE, PositivelyHR, Executive Search, Compensation, Technology, Payroll, and Operations.

  • Seek expertise from colleagues while independently producing analyses, presentations, recommendations, and client deliverables.

  • Help clients benefit from integrated solutions rather than isolated consulting specialties.

Qualifications

There are innumerable ways to learn, grow, and excel professionally. We review each application to better know you and the unique strengths you will bring to work. We are most likely to be interested in your candidacy if you can demonstrate the majority of the qualifications and experiences listed below:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in organizational effectiveness, organizational development, HR strategy, or management consulting.

  • Experience advising nonprofit executive teams and boards, with a preference for individuals who have worked in or with social impact organizations.

  • Demonstrated success leading multiple sophisticated consulting engagements simultaneously — managing scope, budget, timeline, and quality while delivering an exceptional client experience.

  • Strong facilitation, executive communication, analytical, project management, and relationship management skills.

  • Ability to diagnose systemic issues using both qualitative and quantitative data, distinguishing root causes from symptoms.

  • Experience growing client relationships and contributing to business development — such as shaping proposals, expanding engagements, or achieving revenue goals — in a consulting or professional services environment.

  • Collaborative, curious, evidence-based, and committed to helping mission-driven organizations thrive.

  • Familiarity with Positive Psychology, Positive Organizational Scholarship, or other evidence-based approaches to organizational effectiveness is a plus.

  • Must be located in the United States and willing to work Eastern Time Zone hours to accommodate Positively Partners’ primarily East Coast clients.

Measures of Success

  • Achieve annual consulting revenue goals.

  • Build trusted client relationships that generate repeat consulting engagements.

  • Deliver measurable organizational improvements and high client satisfaction.

  • Strengthen collaboration across service lines.

  • Contribute to the continued evolution of CARE methodologies.

You’ll Thrive Here If You…

At Positively Partners, we believe great work comes from alignment with strengths. We believe you’ll like this role if you:

  • Enjoy solving complex organizational challenges.

  • Balance strategic thinking with practical implementation.

  • Care as much about adoption and impact as recommendations.

  • Like working independently while collaborating deeply with experienced colleagues.

  • Believe organizations achieve the greatest impact when leadership, people, and organizational systems work together intentionally.

Compensation & Benefits

Positively Partners offers staff a robust compensation and benefits package including access to high-quality, inclusive health benefits that prioritize employee agency and an opportunity for an end of year discretionary bonus calculated in equal measure based on individual, team, and organizational performance.

The salary range for this role is $105,000 to $140,000 with a potential for up to 10% annual, performance-based bonus. Positively Partners is committed to supporting employee growth in our field, including providing training and support on an ongoing basis.

Location & Work Expectations

This is a remote position, open to candidates based in the United States. To best serve our primarily East Coast clients, candidates must be available to work Eastern Time Zone hours.
