Job description

We’re looking for people to join the Access family, who share our passion for believing in better, and who will help us continue to grow.

Love Work. Love Life. Be You. - is central to our success and how we give our customers the freedom to do more of what's important to them.

What does Access offer you?

We offer a blended approach to office working, encouraging you to collaborate and connect in one of our thriving offices. We deliver on what we say, taking the development of our people seriously. We’ll work with you to progress your success plan and provide opportunities to accelerate your career.

The Role

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team. You'll take end-to-end ownership of complex features and technical initiatives - from inception through to production - while helping shape the architectural direction of the platform.

You'll lead the decomposition of our monolith into an Event-Driven, Microservice architecture, make independent, well-reasoned design decisions, and set the technical standard for those around you.

You'll be expected to mentor colleagues, contribute to engineering strategy, and act as a credible technical voice with product and non-technical stakeholders alike.

About you:

  • You take end-to-end ownership - You're comfortable driving complex features from ambiguous brief through to production deployment. You raise risks early, maintain delivery momentum, and hold yourself accountable for outcomes - not just outputs.
  • You make sound architectural decisions independently - You have a strong grasp of design patterns, distributed systems, and microservices architecture. You can evaluate trade-offs, document decisions clearly, and influence technical direction across the team without needing to be the loudest voice in the room.
  • You set the quality bar - You're a passionate proponent of quality code - SOLID principles, software craftsmanship, TDD and BDD are embedded habits. You target high automated test coverage as a baseline, and you apply a Security First mindset, taking responsibility for ensuring no high or critical security vulnerabilities reach production through your work.
  • You're commercially aware and customer-focused - You understand how your technical decisions connect to customer value, cost, and business outcomes. You use telemetry and data-driven insight to surface issues proactively and collaborate with Product as a genuine peer.
  • You mentor and multiply - You actively develop the engineers around you - sharing knowledge openly, offering proactive support when colleagues are stuck, and building team capability without gatekeeping. You foster psychological safety and contribute to a sense of collective purpose.
  • You lead on AI and agentic working - You go well beyond the basics. You've built sophisticated integrations with AI tools, understand prompt engineering, and apply AI governance and compliance practices as standard. You can identify emerging AI capabilities and translate them into concrete proposals for the team. You know where these tools fall down and you factor that into how you work and how you guide others.
  • You're adaptable and resilient - You seek and apply feedback, adapt when approaches aren't working, and maintain composure under pressure. You treat setbacks as learning opportunities and model that mindset for the team.

What we’re looking for

  • Strong production experience with C# / .NET Core and building scalable backend services
  • Proven experience designing and delivering microservices or decomposing legacy monoliths
  • Solid understanding of event-driven architecture (messaging systems, service buses)
  • Experience with Azure PaaS and Kubernetes
  • Frontend familiarity with TypeScript and React
  • Demonstrable experience with TDD/BDD, automated testing, and maintaining high test coverage, ideally utilizing AI tooling to augment approach
  • A track record of mentoring engineers and contributing to team technical standards
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
