Job description

TITLE Content Specialist Writer
DEPARTMENT Content – Earned Media
DIVISION NP Digital
LOCATION Remote - US

ABOUT OUR COMPANY

NP Digital (NPD) is a global award-winning performance marketing agency. AdAge named us Performance Marketing Agency of Year, Campaign Magazine labeled us the Global Agency of the Year in two categories, and The Drum awarded us the Agency Business Award for Global Development. Google recently handed us the Agency Excellence Award for Media Unification and both Inc. and AdAge listed us on their Best Places to Work lists.

NP Digital combines proprietary platforms with best-in-class talent to deliver leading edge experiences centered around: paid and organic search, social, content, retargeting, performance display, feed management and conversion rate optimization.

NP Digital focuses on creating innovative, adaptive, and data-driven digital marketing plans for our clients. Obsessed with helping companies grow and exceed their goals, NP Digital delivers on the mission of continually helping brands connect and engage with their audience.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This is an established role on NP Digital’s content production team, and we're looking for the right candidate to step in and own it.

We’re seeking a skilled, professional, and detail-oriented Content Specialist Writer to join our production team for ongoing writing and editing needs across a wide range of industries. The ideal candidate is equal parts writer and copy editor, someone with strong research and journalistic instincts who can write and edit copy with a firm grasp of search engine optimization (SEO), generative engine optimization (GEO), and storytelling best practices.

Our ideal writer moves comfortably across the full content spectrum — from 10,000-word technical ebooks and ghostwritten thought leadership articles to short-form social posts — turning complex, research-backed information into copy that is informative, clear, accessible, and accurate. Just as important, they understand the ins and outs of AI/large language models (LLMs), including where these tools help in the writing and editing process, where they fall short, and how to use them without sacrificing accuracy, originality, or voice.

In this role, you will be expected to brainstorm, research, create, edit, and transform ideas into the following deliverable types:

  • Blogs
  • Product descriptions
  • FAQ pages
  • Landing pages
  • Infographics
  • Sales copy
  • Long-form assets (e.g., whitepapers, ebooks)
  • Thought leadership articles
  • Short-form social media posts

This team member should have a well-rounded understanding of multiple content marketing techniques, the ability to clearly communicate and collaborate, effective time management skills, and the ability to self-edit all work.

ABOUT THE RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Managing Editor, the Content Writer will work closely with our Copy Editor and content production team to help bring a client’s content marketing strategy to life with the written word.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Own copywriting and editing for our clients across core content deliverables, with ability to apply foundational writing, editing, and content marketing best practices. Tasks may include writing core pages (website copy), landing pages, blogs, and larger content pieces deemed important to the client’s business, with a Content Lead’s assignment direction.
  • Think strategically about the purpose behind each assignment — the audience, the funnel stage, and the client’s goals — so every piece does a clear job, not just fill a brief or foundational outline.
  • Collaborate with Managing Editor and Content Leads across numerous client accounts, attending regular meetings with clients and internal teams to fully understand a client’s copy needs and to establish strong relationships with clients.
  • Assist with creating comprehensive, informative content briefs to help writers create copy that aligns with client tone, voice, style points, and goals.
  • Conduct in-depth subject matter research to create and edit well-written and well-sourced copy.
  • Ensure that deliverables meet or exceed all deadlines.
  • Revise, self-edit, and proofread content for grammar, tone and voice, and the client’s preferred style — fact-checking all claims, data, and sources.
  • Communicate with management, SEO teams, Client Services, and other internal teams on key project metrics, timelines, and campaign goals.
  • Communicate proactively about timelines, capacity, and potential blockers so deadlines stay on track and there are no surprises.
  • Use LLM-assisted writing and research tools responsibly to support ideation, research, and drafting, always fact-checking, editing, and ensuring originality so every deliverable meets NP Digital and client standards.
  • Daily use of NP Digital’s project management tools.

ABOUT YOU

  • At least 2-3 years of professional writing and editing experience, with an established writing and editing portfolio.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, English, or similar specialty is required.
  • Strong research and journalistic instincts, with the ability to find and vet credible sources, consult subject-matter experts if needed, verify facts, and turn dense material into clear, accurate narratives.
  • Proficient in using various writing styles and guidelines, including Associated Press (AP), and familiarity following brand style guides.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience using Microsoft Word, including track changes.
  • A firm understanding of LLMs (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, etc.) — including their strengths, limitations, and best-fit uses — with the skill to prompt them effectively and to catch/edit hallucinations, inaccuracies, and off-voice output.
  • Overall knowledge and experience of major content marketing strategies, including writing with the inverted pyramid methodology, breaking up walls of text, internal linking and accessibility best practices, and more.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities and complete assignments within deadline.
  • A passion for human-first writing and editing with the ability to see the value LLMs can bring to both processes.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to NP Digital’s mission of Think Big, Own It, and Have Fun.

ABOUT HOW YOU THINK

  • Sharp critical thinking and editorial judgment. You interrogate sources, pressure-test claims and assumptions, build a clear line of reasoning, and know what belongs in a piece and what to cut, no matter if the draft started with a person or an AI.
  • Intellectual curiosity. You genuinely enjoy learning unfamiliar industries and complex subjects, and ask the questions that get to the heart of a topic.
  • Level-headed judgment under deadline. You know when a piece is done, when it needs another pass, and how to prioritize when everything feels urgent.
  • Adaptable and quick to learn. You move fluidly between voices, formats, and subject matter as clients and briefs shift.
  • An ownership mindset. You’re comfortable with ambiguity, fill gaps proactively, and drive work forward without waiting to be told.
  • Reader-first instincts. You have an intuitive read on audience, so every piece meets people where they are and moves them to act.
  • You take feedback and constructive criticism to heart. You actively seek feedback, adapt and apply it quickly, and always strive to sharpen your craft. You’re comfortable receiving input from multiple internal teams and client stakeholders.
  • You thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, and highly collaborative team environment.

BONUS POINTS

  • In-house or freelance content writing experience for clients within a digital marketing agency is highly preferred.
