PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The purpose of this role is to develop and manage a profitable book of business within assigned line(s) of business, while building and maintaining strong agency relationships and driving production results. Business Development Underwriters are assigned primary underwriting responsibility for specific line(s) of business (e.g., Workers’ Compensation or Commercial Package and its component coverages). In addition, this role supports broader Commercial Lines growth by identifying cross-sell opportunities and actively marketing all Company products in coordination with other underwriting partners. This role exists to ensure the Company achieves its underwriting profitability and distribution objectives through disciplined risk selection, pricing, and agency engagement.
Location: Remote within the Oklahoma City territory. Candidates ideally reside in Oklahoma City or the surrounding metro area, including Edmond, Moore, Midwest City, Yukon, Norman, or other nearby communities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Underwriting & Portfolio Management
Underwrite, select, and price risks within assigned line(s) of business in accordance with Company guidelines
Maintain accountability for the profitability, growth, and retention of assigned portfolio
Evaluate risk characteristics including operations, financials, management, and loss history to determine acceptability
Apply appropriate pricing, credits/debits, and underwriting judgment to achieve target returns
Accept or reject risks within delegated authority while ensuring alignment with underwriting guidelines and profitability objectives
Monitor book performance and take corrective action as needed
Utilize underwriting authority to effectively price and manage business within assigned line(s)
Remain current on regulatory, rating, and coverage changes (e.g., WCIRB/NCCI, ISO/AAIS) impacting assigned line(s) of business
Business Development, Production & Distribution
Drive new business production and achieve growth objectives through proactive agency engagement, prospecting, and cross-sell execution
Develop, manage, and maintain a producer force capable of generating profitable business
Monitor production, quality, and profitability of assigned producers and hold producers accountable to expectations
Drive profitable sales of all Company products, including increasing penetration of existing products and supporting new product introductions
Actively identify and pursue cross-sell opportunities across all Commercial Lines products, regardless of primary underwriting assignment
Promote all Company Commercial Lines offerings in agency interactions, supporting a total account approach
Prospect, prequalify, and appoint new producers aligned with Company strategy
Set, communicate, and monitor production expectations with agency partners
Maintain thorough knowledge of assigned territory, including production sources, competitor activity, and market trends
Identify opportunities for growth, new distribution, and market expansion and provide feedback to leadership
Producer & Relationship Management
Serve as the primary Company contact and representative for assigned and prospective producers
Build and maintain collaborative relationships through regular agency visits, meetings, and presentations
Provide underwriting and production support, including participation in account strategy and marketing discussions
Provide responsive, high-quality service to agents and insureds, resolving inquiries and coverage decisions promptly
Maintain consistent communication through in-person visits, calls, and Company technology
Present agency performance insights, opportunities, and agency management strategies to internal stakeholders and agency partners
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This role does not have supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with a major or emphasis in Business, Accounting, Statistics, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 1 year of related experience and/or training required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current driver’s license required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with agents and brokers while delivering high-quality customer service
Ability to apply fundamental underwriting principles, concepts, and guidelines within assigned line(s) of business
Ability to evaluate and interpret submissions, financial information, loss control reports, and policy forms/endorsements
Working knowledge of commercial insurance products, including Workers’ Compensation and/or Commercial Package and its component coverages (e.g., General Liability, Property, Commercial Auto, Inland Marine)
Ability to balance underwriting discipline within assigned line(s) of business with business development, production, and cross-sell expectations across Commercial Lines
Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills
Ability to analyze risk, identify exposures, and make sound underwriting decisions aligned with Company objectives
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Office environment – no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands and employees are regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear.
Role requires 40%-50% travel to meet with clients, attend industry events, and develop new business opportunities.
Travel is usually limited to automobile but occasional air travel is required.
Requires regular visits to outside locations such as producer's offices.
This position operates in a home office environment and requires the frequent use of a computer, telephone, copier and other standard office equipment.

The current range for this position is
$90,559.93 - $152,723.07This range is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. If hired at ICW Group, your final base salary compensation will be determined by factors unique to each candidate, including experience, education and the location of the role and considers employees performing substantially similar work.
