Job description

Company Overview

Teak is building better experiences for people attending live events, participating in sports, and booking travel. Our easy-to-embed, full-service solutions enable businesses in live events, sports, endurance racing, bookings, and destinations to increase revenue while offering consumers greater flexibility and confidence at checkout. We have served over 12 million consumers and surpassed $1 billion in experiences enhanced through our platform. Our business is growing quickly and is profitable.

We're a fully remote, fast-moving, high-impact team that thrives on solving hard problems. Every role here is mission-critical, and every person has the opportunity to shape the future of our company.

Role Summary

Teak is seeking a Head of Legal to run the company's legal function. This is a generalist in-house role.

You'll be the primary legal point of contact for the business, serving as the go-to resource for legal questions across every department, managing contract flow end-to-end, advising leadership on corporate governance and implementing the board process, overseeing lobbying and regulatory affairs work and working with key outside counsel.

This role suits a pragmatic, hands-on attorney who wants to be part of a broader business team.

Core Responsibilities

Internal Legal Q&A: Act as the first point of contact for legal questions from Product, Sales, Customer Success, Finance, and other teams, triaging issues and looping in outside counsel where needed.

Day-to-Day Contracting: Own contract lifecycle management across the business, including drafting, redlining, and negotiating commercial, partner, and vendor agreements.

Contract Review: Serve as the primary reviewer for incoming and outgoing agreements, flagging risk and ensuring consistency with company positions and policy.

Governance: Manage the board process end-to-end — meeting preparation, resolutions, consents, and minutes — and serve as Corporate Secretary.

Lobbying Oversight: Oversee lobbying registrations, disclosures, and compliance obligations across the states and jurisdictions in which Teak operates.

Process Building: Establish scalable processes, templates, and playbooks for all areas of the company that respond to business needs and invite team participation.

Role Requirements

5–15 years of total legal experience, in-house and/or law firm, with a track record of increasing ownership over commercial and corporate matters.

Bonus points if at least a portion of this experience is in a corporation.

Bonus points if you have direct experience in an ecommerce / subscription Internet business.

Strong contract drafting, review, and negotiation skills across commercial, partnership, and vendor agreements.

Comfortable fielding a wide range of internal legal questions and knowing when to escalate to outside counsel.

High degree of ownership and resourcefulness; energized by being part of a broader business team vs. looking to build a separate legal empire.

J.D. and active bar license in good standing.

This is a remote position. Travel to Teak Hubs in Phoenix, San Francisco, Denver, Los Angeles, Austin, or Chicago may be required.

Bonus Points

Prior hands-on experience supporting corporate governance and board processes, including service as (or alongside) a corporate secretary.

Familiarity with lobbying registration and disclosure requirements, or the ability to get up to speed quickly.

Prior experience as an in-house generalist at a high-growth startup.
