Location/Territory

This is a remote, field-based position supporting customers throughout the Greater Montreal region and the Province of Quebec. The primary service territory includes the Greater Montreal area and surrounding regions throughout Quebec, with occasional travel across Eastern Canada.

Preference will be given to candidates currently residing in the Greater Montreal area. Candidates residing elsewhere in Canada who are willing to relocate to the Montreal area prior to their start date will also be considered.

We are seeking to fill this position as soon as possible. Candidates must already be legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of application. Visa sponsorship and international relocation assistance are not available for this position.

Daily travel within the assigned territory is required, along with occasional overnight travel (approximately 20%) throughout Eastern Canada for customer support and training.

Initial and ongoing technical training is conducted primarily in the United States and requires international travel. Candidates must be eligible to travel to the U.S. for required training and business support.

As an Engineer III, Field Service, you will deliver advanced technical service and support for Thermo Fisher Scientific's analytical instrumentation solutions, specializing in Chromatography (IC/LC/HPLC/UHPLC) and Trace Elemental technologies (ICP-OES/ICP-MS). You will install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, qualify, and optimize analytical systems while building trusted customer relationships that maximize laboratory productivity and performance.

As part of the Chromatography & Mass Spectrometry Division (CMD), you will support a diverse portfolio of analytical instrumentation used by leading laboratories across academia, industry, healthcare, and government.

This role offers a high degree of autonomy and is best suited to an experienced field service engineer with a broad analytical instrumentation background across both Chromatography and Trace Elemental technologies who can quickly become a trusted technical resource for our customers.

A Day in the Life

  • Install, commission, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, maintain, and qualify Chromatography (IC/LC/HPLC/UHPLC) and Trace Elemental (ICP-OES/ICP-MS) instrumentation.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and emergency repairs to maximize customer productivity and instrument uptime.

  • Deliver exceptional technical support while building trusted customer relationships.

  • Manage service schedules, complete documentation, and accurately close work orders using company systems.

  • Complete required product training and maintain technical certifications.

  • Work safely in customer laboratory environments while following Thermo Fisher Scientific and customer safety requirements.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Service organization to provide technical support and share expertise.

  • Represent Thermo Fisher Scientific professionally in every customer interaction.

Keys to Success

Education

  • Diploma, Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience in Chemistry, Electronics, Engineering Technology, Physical Sciences, or a related technical discipline.

  • Laboratory or bench chemistry experience is considered an asset.

Experience

  • 5+ years Field service experience supporting analytical instrumentation or equivalent technical experience.

  • Candidates with approximately five or more years of progressively responsible field service experience supporting analytical instrumentation are strongly preferred. Equivalent combinations of experience and demonstrated technical expertise across multiple Chromatography and Trace Elemental platforms will also be considered.

  • The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise across both Chromatography and Trace Elemental instrumentation, with demonstrated experience supporting multiple platforms.

  • Hands-on service experience supporting at least three of the following technologies is strongly preferred, with experience spanning both Chromatography and Trace Elemental product lines:

    • Ion Chromatography (IC)

    • Liquid Chromatography (LC/HPLC/UHPLC)

    • ICP-OES

    • ICP-MS

  • Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced field environment.

  • Professional proficiency in both French and English (spoken and written) is required, as this role supports customers and colleagues in both official languages.

  • Commitment to safety while working in customer laboratory environments.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance and routinely transport service tools and equipment.

  • Frequent travel throughout Quebec with occasional overnight travel as required.

  • Must be eligible to travel internationally, including to the United States, for required training and business support. The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain all necessary travel documentation, including a valid passport.
