About Whizz

Whizz is the largest e-bike subscription service for gig delivery workers in North America. We rent maintained, insured e-bikes to independent couriers on a monthly subscription. We operate in six states, with New York as our largest market, and employ 100+ people.

Purpose of the Role

The Head of Finance owns the company's finance and accounting function. This is an operational role. The priority is accurate reporting, disciplined budgeting, and financial control across a physical, asset-heavy business.

Responsibilities

Financial reporting. Own the preparation and accuracy of the P&L, cash flow statement, and balance sheet. Run the monthly close on schedule and ensure the reporting package is consistent, reconciled, and usable by management.

Inventory and fleet accounting. Own how inventory and fixed assets are recorded and reflected in the financial statements. This includes maintaining and improving the capitalization and depreciation policy for bikes, batteries, and spare parts, managing the fixed asset register, accounting for disposals and write-offs, and reconciling operational inventory records against the general ledger.

Budgeting and financial model. Maintain the company's financial model for internal planning purposes. Build the annual and quarterly budgets with department heads, track actual performance against plan, and report variances with recommended corrective action.

Financial control. Build the financial control function: approval and authorization procedures, spend controls, segregation of duties, and regular controls over cash, receivables, and payables.

Team and external partners. Manage in-house accountants and the outsourced accounting firm, define the division of work between them, and hold both to agreed deadlines and quality standards.

Compliance and operations. Oversee payroll, multi-state tax registrations and filings, statutory reporting, and audit readiness. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, and payment processing operations.

Cross-functional Work

The Head of Finance works directly with the operations, supply chain, and product teams on projects such as pricing changes, new city launches, vendor contracts, warehouse and inventory processes, and payment system changes. The role is expected to identify and address the financial and accounting implications of these projects at the design stage.
